It's not uncommon. You live in area with a lot of military families, many of whome are on base during work hours. Sorry to hear of your loss.

How'd they get in? Saw the bars on your windows?

Are you on the ground floor?

What kind of key system do you have to your front door? It's a good idea to change locks when you move to a new place as you never know how many keys have been passed around.

My apartment was broken into tuesday in haebanchon. They got in through the bathroom window and stole all my wife's jewelry and my wedding ring. Could of been much worse as there was lots of electronic stuff they decided to leave. Called the police, they came in, turned off all the lights, then proceeded to look around using a small torch, not an infrared one or one that detects blood or anything, just a normal torch. i would have thought using the main light would have been brighter, but what do I know. I think they had been watching CSI and got a little confused. Sorry for your loss, never had my house broekn into before, t sucks. Is it common, apparantly it happens a lot in haebanchon.

Sounds like a bad part of town. They must have been ninjas or you all sleep very heavily to rob the house without waking anybody.

I lived on the ground floor for about 4 years in Itaewon, the proclaimed cesspool of Seoul.........I locked all my windows at night before I went to sleep and before I left the house and I padlocked the bars so there is no way of moving them or prying them open.

Also, if you have high-valued items like jewelry and such, it is always good to have some kind of box that could be locked with a key or something........

And if you are going to be away for a while, it is always good to leave your lights on and music or TV on, it gives the impression someone is home.

It also helps to have a wall that was about 2 meters high and about 1/4 meter thick with broken glass fused into the concrete on top................................. Wink

Came back home a few months ago to find the front door smashed in, this must have happened during the middle of the day. I assume they got disturbed as two laptops, an ipod and some cash lying around were all untouched.

Got a new front door with bars on it so it shouldn't happen again.

Robbed in HBC July 2006, while at the mud festival.

Left behind all our electronics, various currencies.

Only took one african gold bracelet (pretty big 24K gold, too yellow for me to wear actually) that was a wedding present from my parents. It was probably melted down to make little baby rings.

Oh, and my underwear drawer was dumped out and rifled through. Shocked

How did he get in? He leapt from the other roof to ours, in a rainstorm. Seriously, there ARE ninjas around...

This is why I lock my windows when I go sleep and go out.

Is the haebangchon area a big target for theives, or is this Seoul in general? Korea in general? I'd be interested in seeing burglary statistics by neighborhood.

This is one reason why I don't want to live in Seoul The B and E rate there seems to be fairly high.

we are on the second floor behind seamaul bank...
was stoopid to leave the door unlocked as my gf hadn't come home yet..
but my mate who is 130kgs and 183cm was alseep on the couch, which should be enough for most people not to step in the house...

after the cops came, csi came and dusted for prints.
seems the culprit took their shoes off when coming in, and turned all the lights on in the house... how either of us, and my dog didn't wake up I dunno.
someone told me there is some spray that knocks people out that is used in these cases some times
