Does it have much of a following and if so what is the standard of competition? Would you need to be on steroids to be competitive as in most places these days? Since I intend to get back in shape anyway, I'd be quite interested in training and competing if possible. |

haven't been here long enough to fully answer your question but the place I go to definitely has some guys with whom it's obvious they take it very seriously. But I wouldn't call it a bodybuilding level (aka serious rockhead/musclehead level, just a step below)
walking around Seoul (though it was a small and limited example) last weekend, I saw one guy on the street where it was clear he lifted regularly.
anyways.. I'm sure you will find a "serious" gym if you look for it, where you can definitely get into shape and find fellow ironbangers to help you with spotting, etc.
but as to competing, I'm not what levels you are talking about, but I'd be willing to bet that these competitions might be forbidden for you anyways, since you are foreigner. My sense is that there the competitive bodybulding culture here is very small.
from what I've seen of the Koreans thus far, if you are a bigger Western guy who doesn't have problems putting on mass, these guys cannot keep up. Not sure whether it's the diet, or genetics (probably combo of the two) but it wouldn't be a fair competition anyways. |

ya. I blow up super fast.
As for supplements. mass119.com is the only place I have been able to find in korea that offers good selection. it's in korea, but u can at least try to surf it to find what you want. then get a korean to order your stuff. That's what I did.
Bupyeong market has a small store, will very little selection, and it's over priced. near exit 23 or 24 I think.
No clue on the juice though. Never did it. No clue where u'd get it. Also not sure if they test for that or not during the hiring process.
I have heard that Korean Ginseng actually has a natural steroid in it. I don't know the amounts that are required.
I personally just look up ways of increasing ones test naturally. for ex. garlic. morning wanks/sex. and the correct amount of sleep.
burners, protein, cretine, and maybe ZMA and glutemine was all I ever used. got me big enough. Not competition size, but big nonetheless.

ur also going to have to research your gyms.
1 kg = 2.2 lbs
the gym I had I maxed out over half the machines. I didn't fit in the leg press.
and the dumbells maxed at 25 kg/55lbs.
I had to change my routine a lot. |

Dumbells only go up to 55lbs, what about the plates? I'm used to using 45, 35, 25, 10 and 5 lbs. |

but I was hogging all the plates half the time when I was doing calves and deadlifts. they only had like 4 or 6 20kg/45lbs |

also, they had a smith, not a rack. so it sucked for a lot of things.
and the bar used for powerlifting had a MEAN curve to it, haha. I don't think their bars are of adequate material. |

expensive route. bupyeong market. limited selection.
cheaper faster route, not as limited, but comfusing as hell. www.mass119.com shipping around 10 bucks
longer, not limited, more expensive. any site from america. the shipping cost will be about 50 bucks. products are about the same price as the mass119 site.
I got shitty ones from bupyeong, and better ones from mass119.
just find a korean to sign up and order it for you. You can use english to search for what you want. but that's about all I have been able to do. Also, babel fish can translate a bit. But I think you need to have a korean ID to order anything. |

I'm not very big (I competed at a weight of 68kg), but as to Westerners having an advantage, that would be all the more reason to get involved. Although they are not genetically equiped for bodybuilding or powerlifting, I would have thought the sports would be popular with Koreans as they seem to value athletisism. |
