Someone today told me that foreign english teachers are not allowed to with one school for 2-3 years. After that the school must hire you as a regular permanent teacher like everyone else.

Any info on this people?

Thanks~

In Public schools, Korean teachers rotate every 2 or 3 years.
We're not the same, some people stay for more than 4 years at the same school.

At a privately owned government schools, teachers can stay as long as they like. I know ones who have been in the same job for over 13 years.

At PS, teachers stay for a maximum of 5 years. If they request a move then they will be considered. Most teachers in my area do their 5 years and then get moved. Principals and VPs only get to stay a maximum of 4 years before being moved.

As NK says, I'm sure a native teacher in PS can stay as long as they want. Problem being that with a change of co-teacher, principal or VP could make you change your mind very quickly.

My friend has an E2 visa and has been at his school for 6 years.

It's customary, but NOT illegal.

Actually that's kinda nice to hear of teachers that are being treated well by the administration and have chosen to stay. I wish I was that lucky. 2 different public schools in 2 and a half years and it will be a third next year. The dice rolled snake eyes for me.

There are no such rules for foreign teachers. Korean teachers at public-public schools get rotated every 5 years. Korean teahcers at private-public schools (I know, the term sounds ridiculous) may spend their whole career at one school. Non-tenured Korean teachers on temporary contracts may only stay up to 4 years at one school.
