I extended my contract before the new visa laws came in.
I had already received my E-2 visa extension, but almost half-way through my contract I am being asked to get a criminal background check.
I'm not concerned - I don't have a criminal past. But I don't trust my school, and it is a pain to get this check done when I am still in Korea.
Does anyone know if people who resigned before the new laws came in, need a criminal background check? Thanks.

If you extended BEFORE march 15, it is NOT required (by immigration) until you extend or change your current status of sojourn.

That is NOT to say that your employer can't make the request as a condition of employment.

If your from the US it actually quite easy to do and the total cost is less than $60. You can order a CRC online and bring it to the Consulate where they will stamp an affidavide that you fill out saying the CRC is authentic and you havent altered it. They dont say the affidavide is true. They just say that YOU say the affidavid is true. Immigration is accepting these with no problems.
