Delusion.

It was hardly game, set and match in any case. If we ask 'is the sunset beautiful?' we do not invite comments involving sexuality. If we ask 'is she beautiful?' we invite comments involving sexuality and sexual appeal, since beautiful and pretty are the female equivalents of handsome. Unless you're clear in what you mean by beautiful, and BB wasn't, one is perfectly entitled to give the verdict of a heterosexual male in his prime (since it concerned a woman and not a sunset). And the answer is, unequivocally and inescapably, no (unless you're some kind of weirdo)
When BB said "This morning I left at dawn, and looked up to observe the changes in the sky as I walked up the hill, and said to myself "that's so beautiful"" (she couldn't have been in Korea then!), she was exploiting a difference in usage and it's weak reasoning. |
Not bad.
But I do still find your trigger-finger evolutionary reductionism amusing. Aesthetics comprise more than sexuality. So, in that sense, the analogy with the sunset stands. Both the sunset and the woman involve appraisals of aesthetics. I think Big Bird has a strong defense, because she never asked whether the woman was F*ckable, but you still muster a defense as to that being naturally first and foremost in your mind. You can argue that is because you are governed by evolutionary laws of nature, it was only natural to go there. But the all-too-willingness to be governed by the least, and stupidest, common denominator is not enough to erase considerations of aesthetic appeal altogether. |

Do we all have to give the answer of a heterosexual male in his prime?
By your own reasoning bigbird was not clear in what context she was asking re the beauty of the woman in the picture, thus posters are free to interpret it as an aesthetic beauty rather than 'shaggable' beauty yes?
Do you mean to suggest that a 'heterosexual man in his prime' can only see the shaggable beauty in this picture?
Would a heterosexual man not at his prime answer differently?
Aaahhh....the questing idleness of a slow day at work... |

| Perhaps it's me being superificial, Stormy, but when asked "is she beautiful?", my interpretation is "is she extremely pleasant to look at?" (sexual or not) and one can come to no other answer than one in the negative, sadly. She looks nice, happy, gentle, friendly, but not beautiful under any definition, since beautiful is very strong. I find it very difficult to believe that all the yes votes are genuine. Perhaps someone can explain why this lady is a manifestation of beauty? |

the question was not whether she was a beautiful "person" - the question when posed as such usually refers to her physical appearance. If that offends you, maybe you should start a new and "reformed" society.

sorry, you don't know what the word "beauty" means.
there are dictionaries out there if you need help. online, print version... they're available.
it's not about PC or reformed society, it's about acting like a human. it's about being romantic, and loving the female form for what it is - an imperfect thing that does indeed get old.
had i married this lady when we were both "hot" age, i would still be popping mad boners for her. she is aesthetically attractive, though old.
what's more, it looks to me like she's maintained health and beauty without much artificial outside help.
your van damme example is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever seen. was he beautiful when he was young? no, he was a gym-titted fake tan zombie. he still is, and that's what it looks like when you do that ridiculous crap for too long.
not the case for the OP's posted photo. |

As you wrote in your post, that's your interpretation. But does the term beautiful have only one definition that applies to everyone? To me your description of 'nice, happy, gentle, friendly' can be a description of the term beautiful.
I think she looks graceful, she has a stunning bone structure in her face that gives her an unearthly, exotic look. She looks like she has lived a full life and would no doubt impart much wisdom. So yeah, I honestly think she is beautiful. Of course I'm not a man, is this where the difference in the definition of beauty comes in do you think?
I don't think you're (necessarily) superficial btw, I was just musing aloud really (or on-screen). Everyone obviously has their own opinion. I find it interesting though when people claim to hold the only valid opinion & dismiss anyone holding a different opinion as being dishonest. |

I posted the dictionary definition of beauty and it refers to aesthetic appearance. different people may judge aesthstics differently but the standard set down from the classic Greeks has endured the test of time for the most part.
Your opinion on Von Damme is amusing. Forget his "fake tanned and gym titted physique, as you call it". If you look at that face, it was a handsome face period. Now, the vestiges of the physique remain (good for him) but the face has deteriorated in a bad way (perhaps it's just that one photo, but the proof is indisputable)
I don't entirely disagree with your assessment on the old lady, if you look at my posts from the start though the question of whether I'd still be popping boners for her is one I can't honestly answer.

graceful - agreed, I'd have used that word before beautiful - they're very similar though not completely synonymous
exotic? - hmm.. perhaps. very angular features.. was undoubtedly quite attractive as younger woman. now those features in advanced age actually make her look "older".
living a full life and imparting wisdom? - yeah sure, but here I can say NO MAN would ever define that aspect as "beautiful" and neither would any dictionary.

once again, that would be complete nonsense to almost every man and every dictionary. I call this the feminine PC hijacking of the dictionary where under such vastly broader definitions almost any plain Jane or even ugly Betty can ALSO be "beautiful", which is of course what they all want to hear. |

when men think of "beautiful" they also think this
(actually not only men, my mother would completely agree with my thinking, she's not affected by new age PC nonsense)
Padma Lakshi. Human Viagra.
still fairly beautiful (there are better pics) after all these years and despite being with old bag Salman Rushdie.
but when young - Human viagra.

her breasts are plenty for me. let me guess, you like the stereotypical Western "glam" Pam Anderson look?
and if you think she's airbrushed.(might be in this photo, she's also younger in it) . take a look at her in fairly recent 60 minutes interview. |

Look at her eyes. See those two bright dots? And her lips, don't you think they're just a little too shiny?

You guys are having a hard time with this. True Beauty cannot be judged on looks alone. That is not PC or any other rubbish, anybody who is a true human being knows this. The cynicism on Dave's astounds me sometimes.
There is no harm in saying an older woman looks beautiful. Unless you are threatened? |

You could see the beauty in her once but not now. I don't think there are many famous women who get my pulse racing to be honest - you can imagine them to be spoilt, pampered, whining mares that they are - thats not sexy.
I loved Makosi from big brother - she had everything I would want in a woman! |
