What do people do on here to fight jetlag?
I've read that melatonin, taken before during and after your flight can help control your circadian cycle. Anyone tried this? |

I usually try and adjust my sleep a few days ahead by a few hours atleast to help minimize it.
Also to go along with this and to cut down a bit on the jetlag I try to sleep or not sleep on the plane depending on the timing of where I am going. Basically the minute I step onto the plan I am in my new timezone. If I should be sleeping I try and sleep. If I should be awake I stay awake.
Also when I arrive in my new time zone I try and stay outside as much as possible (if it is day time) as the sun and the light help your body get adjusted.
The big trick I find is not to nap and try and push yourself. If you're tired and its only 5pm push yourself to stay up till at least 10. To go along with this don't sleep too much either. If you make it to 10 and then fall asleep don't let yourself sleep past say 7 the next morning. On the flip side try and sleep till about that time too. If you wake up and its only 4, don't get up...even if you are awake, lay in bed and try to rest until a decent hour.
Those are things I try and I don't get really bad jetlag. |

Sleep as much on the plane as possible. Start over when you get there. The sickest I have ever been was a US-Korea flight on which I never slept, just spent 20 hours in a drugged haze.
Have an appointment or activity to do the day you get to your destination, to make you get up and go out.
But don't let anyone make you work the first day! |

Figure out what time it is in the place your going and as soon as you get on the plane, start thinking in that time zone.
Or...the night you arrive, get really drunk and sleep until you wake up. Works for me!
Oh!! The not napping thing is right on. |

Avoid alcohol a few days before and after the flight as this places a great deal of stress on the inside of you to the point you may be more than jet lagged.
They say that it takes 1 day to adjust for each time zone passed. If it's 14 hours as in my case, then it takes about 2 weeks to adjust.
Drink lots of water, rest, and force yourself to operate on the new time which a sleep aid can assist you at doing. A sleep aid significantly helps as I found myself too restless and hyper each time I traveled to the point of exhaustion which is very hard on the inside of your body such as your heart.
Wait to party it up... |
