The Bryant Park Project, May 28, 2008 A new study from Northwestern University's Department of Social Psychology finds that many whites worry about inadvertently getting into trouble for seeming biased. As a result, says study author Jennifer Richeson, Caucasians seek to avoid situations where bias might be revealed, such as in the company of black people.
Richeson, an associate professor at Northwestern University, says her research measured biases that 30 white subjects had against black images. She says the biases, even subtle ones, were enough to make those white subjects so afraid of being branded as racist, they indicated a preference for avoiding all contact with black people... |

So they end up behaving in a racist fashion by trying not to be racist.
A follow-up study should examine white racism among blacks. For example, it is known that blacks prefer lighter skin among themselves. Does the same type of avoidance occur in that situation? |

Didn't some pundit stick his foot in his mouth by using the phrase "now hold on just a cotton picking minute" when refering to some racial tiff.
I personally thought that was hilarious. It is however sad. It seems that in todays world you can be a racist even without intending to be so. Damn, I grew up hearing that phrase all the time. I had no idea my little old granny was such a hardcore hater! |

Bigot and racist are used so frequently that I hardly notice them. The same situation for bitch and ho. A few years ago, I took notice, and now, it is background noise. |

Yup. "Racism" is the most over-used and improperly used word in our language now. Like with most of the not-really-believed lefty platitudes, the final straw was muslims.
I do hope this white guilt/multiculturalist garbage can come to an end some day. It is little more than a racket to protect the ethnic grievance industry. |

Well, white people are too often placed under the microscope as if they are more racist than the other groups. I think that's unfair and needs to stop. Where do they talk about racism against white people? |

Shh. You cannot mention that. It is offensive. And besides, it marks you as an insensitive racist. |

Well, when I was a kid, the aquarium at my local library had a sticker featuring a catfish dressed up in the stereotypical outfit of a southern plantation owner, with the caption Get Your Cotton Pickin' Hands Off The Glass. The character's clothing made it pretty clear that the artist was aware of the phrase's original intended target.
And yeah. I can kind of see why blacks would be offended by that. |

Those are two different events. In one case, the person inadvertently made a comment that the 'industry' felt worthy of a shakedown. In the other, if you are correct, the author deliberately tried to be rude. |

Yes. In fairness, not everyone likely has the etymology of that phrase topmost in their minds all the time. For me, seeing that catfish sticker kind of drove the point home, and I've never been able to hear the phrase since then without thinking about what it was originally referencing. |

I'm big on intention. If you intend to be rude, that's bad. If you do it accidentally, oh well. This racial "gotcha" industry drives me up the wall.
Between the rise of China/India, Obama as likely President, muslims demanding the cultural and political foundations of the West be altered for reasons of their emotional infancy the narrative of all whites as inherently racist is coming to an end. It was pushed too far.
The culture is a lot more mature than the cultural guardians. |

It's not racism if it's against white people; just ask Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. |

Racism is a problem against black people, but there is a problem of white people resenting black people over affirmative action and the fact that racism vis-a-vis white people is not mentioned. |

Hmm.
When someone denies a Native-American, an African-American, a Hispanic-American, or an Asian-American admission, a grant or fellowship, or a position anywhere, based on his or her skin color, we call it "racism" and deplore it.
When someone denies a caucasian admission, a grant or fellowship, or a position anywhere, based on his or her skin color, and I especially emphasize the his over the her here, we call it "justice" and applaud it -- especially when you title books with titles such as "Stupid White Men" and then scream your racist message for all to hear.
As you know, Adventurer, as white males, we get a check every month and therefore do not need admission, grants or fellowships, or positions in society. And further, since we have descended from whites from other centuries, we inherit all their guilt for all their crimes and attitudes and must be the ones who pay. Who says that liberals think that all people are born free and innocent anyway...? |

It's to the point where you are more hated for saying the wrong word than for killing someone. Murders happen all the time, and in a lot of cases are standard daily news fare. But if someone says the "N" word or another to that effect, they get crucified. |
