I'd like to get my hands on some books, without having to have my family get them in US and ship them from there.
there may have been a thread about this a while back ago, but the search features isn't very good useful. |

Yes. I've bought several books from Amazon and had them shipped directly to my school. Took only a week or two to get here. |

Definitely, my friend orders from amazon all the time. I'm quite sure they won't ship anything though. I'm not sure what they will and won't ship. |

I went zero for one thru Amazon - a big order of books disappeared into the ether - Amazon said they were shipped, but nothing turned up - Customs claimed to know nothing.
I second the whatthebook site - always got my books in the time they said. |

terrific! thank you.
I'm looking for a very specific set of practice books which apparently I are not found in Korea (or sporadically found) |

Yeah I've ordered a few times thru Amazon. It takes 2 - 3 weeks for me, but then again I'm out in the sticks sorta. |

I found Amazon a good source for books ... and had them sent to my school address ... and they always got here OK ... Speed depended on how fast I wanted them to arrive ... and what I wanted to pay for postage at the time ...
But depending on what you want in some of the Korean bookstores there is a very good range of both TESOL books and other books in English ... And especially for the TESOL books often at a very good price ...
So I have used both Korean bookshops and Amazon at different times ... and found both to be useful ... |

There's always the old illegal/sometimes legal Ebook.
You can actually pay for them. Or u can surf the net and find most books online, pirated, for the little cost of free.
If that's your bag, then go fur it. Myself being a writer, I still understand that people are gonna take it if they want it. I'm not gonna stop them. Reading a book in book format is much better in the long run anyways. It's so much easier than reading a computer screen, or printing off 100s of pages with the schools printer .
Unless you could get your hands on some sort of printing press... Then you could open your own underground bootleg shop for books. |

I am always worried about that. Any thing I have ordered has been through korean sites. I always tell the rents to never send me any presents. I just don't trust the system 100%.
Could be a 'oooo look at the fancy english writing' thing. but I don't want to suggest that the customs are being waygook selective in their methods of stealing goods. |

Shipping is way overpriced from Amazon to out of country sometimes.
Also, when I needed to get a power converter and a universal adapter, they would not ship outside of the US... |

I heard that amazon.co.uk ship to Korea more quickly than amazon.com. I tried it out, but it seemed to take just as long. If you order the same book(s) on both sites (.co.uk or .com) you can cancel from the site that has the longer delivery estimate. I also looked at the Japanese amazon site, but the language barrier got the better of me. |

I have also used Amazon.com and found it to be quick and reliable. Also, like another poster said, you can download free Ebooks online. |
