The problem is that even if it is a cultural and not a strictly religious attribute Islam is a complete way of life. It is not simply a religion, but a political idealogy, and cultural ideology as well.
Specifically, I'm talking about Wahabiism (sp?), Saudi Arabia's number one export to the rest of the world. This is the the type of Islam that all the terrorists and most of the people who support them ascribe to.
Honor killings are a way of life for these people, not because of they moved from Afghanistan or whereever, but because their whole identity is found in Islam. It's a religion that you can convert to, but you can never convert from without being killed by those who still believe.
When a young woman "dishonors" her family by westernizing--something that all immigrants are expected to do, or at least they were until the multi-culturalists took over. Now the people only have their identity in the view of Islam that they hear from the mullah at the neighborhood mosque--who more than likely came from Saudi Arabia.
Also, how many times do you hear about other religious groups being involved in a honor killing? Definitely not as often as you hear about the honor killings among Muslims, especially if their immigrants to Western nations. |
I've been in Saudi Arabia.
First, look at the national flag of Saudi Arabia, there is a knife and one sentence of writing ( Alla is the only God ) on that flag which means if you don't believe " Alla is only God, you are going to be killed "
During I was in Saudi, I've read Moslem holy book " Koran ", try to understand Islam. There is not even one single word that say " love your wife " or " forgive your enemy ".
Moslems in ME come to western countries, they can worship freely at mosques they built, but westerners who were in Saudi had to worship at underground church, why the religious freedom they enjoy in West couldn't give westerners in their country ?
As you may know " Mohammed " 's 4th wife was only 9 years old when he married her and he was 60 + years old, 60 + years old grown man should know she is still a kid Oh, well, she was his favorite wife, that's what Koran said |

That's not what it means. The full passage says:
| Quote: |
| There is no god but God and Muhammed is his Messenger. |
It's not a knife. It's a sword which represents the victories of ibn Saud to unify the country. |

You are probably right, still a sward on national flag is weird, are they try to say Bin Saud united the country by cutting off people's head with sword ???
If you've read Koran, you probably know there are lots story of battle grounds, they attacked towns and spread their religion, what I try to say is Moslem is not peaceful religion/peace loving religion. |

| You don't have to tell me what you're trying to say. I, along with quite a few others here, already know you're a bigot. |

and yet you only use ad hominen attacks rather than debating the issue of Western tolerance for diversity v. Islamic intolerance for other religions and personal freedoms
interesting. |

| Malarkey. Your accusation is a lie. I clearly showed that the assertions I addressed were false. |

Here's yet another death... this time a blind boy didn't learn the Koran well enough, so he was hanged by his teacher:

A young blind boy has died after a teacher at his Islamic school in Pakistan hung him upside down and beat him for not learning the Koran, Agence France-Presse reported Friday.
Teacher Qari Ziauddin allegedly hung Muhammad Atif, 7, from a ceiling fan at Qari Latif Islamic school near Lahore, Pakistan, on Thursday.
Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has ordered an investigation into the boys death, AFP reported.
"The Prime Minister has expressed his deep sorrow and concern over the tragic death of Muhammad Atif, who reportedly died as a result of corporal punishment by his teacher,'' an official government statement said.
Pakistani police said Ziauddin has been arrested and charged in Atifs murder. The police also report Ziauddin did not take the boy to the hospital after his condition deteriorated following the beating.
Local police official Akram Niazi told AFP an autopsy report confirmed that physical torture caused Atifs death.
"Qari Ziauddin hanged Atif upside down with a ceiling fan in the school after beating him with sticks, which caused his death,'' Niazi told AFP. |
