With all the beef threads I thought I'd post something original. Why don't Koreans eat lamb? New Zealand isn't far and their lamb is delicious. I'm sure the Koreans could find something to do with it. |

Korea is as close to Canada as New Zealand (closer actually).
Why don't Koreans eat buffalo meat? It makes a good burger and bbq. |

Yes, I love (and miss) lamb too!
My K bf says that it is the smell of lamb when it is cooking that puts them off. Mmmmm.... only need to sprinkle a bit of rosemary on to give it that delicious 'top note'.
Also, where are you able to source tender, moist NZ/AU lamb in Korea? The only cuts I can find are frozen mutton joints at the Asia Marts. |

Petra Restaurant in Itaewon has excellent lamb dishes.
as for why Ks don't eat lamb - historically it's not part of their diet perhaps? same as turkey? those who've traveled abroad have tasted it, because we've discussed it. |

It's because lamb is considered western. |

Smelling the rot that my middle school cafeteria prepares every day, I find it rather hard to believe that the smell of lamb puts Koreans off. |

Where'd you dig this little gem from?? It might not be as prevalent here in South Korea, but they do. Also, the Chinese/koreans def. eat it; most of the BBQ shops in the Korean Autonomous Zone of China sell mainly lamb.
There are also lamb restaurants around: one around Bucheon Station (north side), and also one in Bupyeong that I've seen just passing by: look for Yang gogi (no hangul on my home PC). |

The famous kebab guy in Itaewon (in the alley behind Quizno's/old Burger King) has lamb kebabs. It's a lamb and beef combination, actually, and it's wonderful. |

I just think lamb is something that koreans never really thought about. I'm sure the french wonder why we don't eat much horse. |

What do you mean by that? Americans hardly eat lamb and Canadians don't eat that much lamb. Lamb is more likely to be eaten in Britain than in North America and it is very common among the Greeks and Mediterranean countries which is not exactly Western. I believe the Mongolians eat lamb, but their cousins, the Koreans, don't. Remember, sheep need grazing land. Mongolia is suitable for that, not Korea. More and more Koreans are eating lamb if they are cosmopolitan.

As I said, Koreans consider lamb as western food. I've heard them commenting as such including my wife.
As other posters have said, they don't like the smell. About the smell, they say "Yang-Nae" which can be translated as smell of western(er). |
