I recently put together a new rig, with a little help from my friends - (I get by with a little help...) and when I try to hook up (PC shut down before connecting) my Sony DCR TV18 mini DV camcorder, I get no beep from windows, new hardware wiz doesn't recognize any new hardware.
I searched around and saw here
http://www.videoforums.co.uk/hardware-problems/17268-sony-firewire-problems-again.html
that I'm not the only one with problems when trying to connect via firewire. Since I know that I didn't burn out the IEEE board or connection on the camcorder because I didn't hotswap the cable connection, does anyone know why this would happen, or what I else I could try to do in order to fix this issue?
My first thought is that I'm using a cheap firewire cable and need to try another one before I panic...
Thanks |

am not a hardware expert but recently upgraded to a macbook pro and will be buying a firewire external -
I do know there are minimum requirements to run a firewire - so if your hard drive doesn't meet them, or isn't up to the caliber of the firewire, it won't recognize it.
if you built the system yourself, hmm, I'd check out the specs for the firewire and see if you meet them - it could be on that end even.
sorry can't help more but maybe this bump will get you some more attention even.
good luck. |
