In another thread somebody suggested a Wiki-style resource for teachers. I know in my position, some sort of site that was separated by grade and unit would be great. There are things here and there: Smoeworld (inaccessible to non-SMOEs), the gepik teachers esnips file and ddeubels site (good idea but impossible to navigate or find anything on). If we could easily pool things together that would be easy to add to and retrieve, it would save a lot of people a lot of time.
I am not computer-savvy, I have no idea how one could achieve this. Does anybody have any ideas. It could be a great resource... |

That's not a bad idea. If enough people get involved then the content should be pretty easy to put together. It would definitely be great to have a single resource that brings all sorts of ideas and lesson plans together in one place, specifically for each grade and unit.
There are plenty of sites that host free wikis, called wiki farms. Some of these are more user-friendly than others, and for free sites you're probably going to have to live with google ads.
Here's an example I found with a quick search: http://jet.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page
It seems to have been setup by people on the JET programme. |

Would you care to elaborate - the feedback is appreciated. You are always welcome to start your own classroom with all the same functions as the main site but for internal communication and each member gets notified as to added content.
But I'd just start a discussion in our SHARE area and have everyone load up stuff for use and discuss there....super simple.
Also, there are free wikis available on EFL classroom. Just create your own page and link it. Others can come and add whatever they want. No problem...... It takes a moment to learn how to use a wiki but after that it is super simple.

Or play around to get the hang of things in the wiki Sandbox....

You can't go wrong, start a page, delete a page etc......Use the text editor on the right. Click and it pops up to allow for even better editing/layout....

The site's nice, but you have GOT to do something about your layout and design. It looks straight outta 1987. |

Passion and commitment are not enough.

Listen, don't take it the wrong way. I appreciate what you're trying to do, but it's not very useful in my particular case.
I know your feelings on Smoeworld, but I find that site to be more useful for curriculum-related things because it's so easy to find what I'm looking for. I can just scroll down a few pages, and see if anything has been posted on the unit I'm preparing for. I can also easily upload things and know they'll be found and used by people who need them.
Your site is a good idea, and I think it works well for general supplementary materials. I just find the layout to be extremely confusing and difficult to navigate. That's the reason why I rarely use it. I usually can't find exactly what I'm looking for and get sidetracked.
I see you started a sharing area for Korean teachers, but I think what would be really useful for public school teachers is a dedicated site that is broken down into each grade and unit. There was an esnips folder called gepikteachers that was great, but it seems to have disappeared. I'll try and find time during the week to look at the links you posted and see if I can make something happen. |

Robot,
That was a good year! Seriously, when everyone else is in the stone ages and using phpbb blabla....I don't mind being in 1987. In the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king. But I will get up a main page portal in Aug. Mostly to allow quick loading and less to be more. But I'm a one man show and it takes time....After Aug. I'm on a long vacation (life) but the site will take care of itself.

Cruisermonkey -- I completely disagee. It all happens if the heart is there. All a question of time. ...... Please see this presentation about all that is offered on EFL Classroom 2.0 We are talking about humans, not monkeys sitting at a keyboard.
http://eflclassroom.com/ppt.efl20.swf You can also find screencasts showing you around. Look under FAQ.
Binch -- completely follow your arguement. My qualms about smoeworld have nothing to do with the people contributing but rather with the axe held over the site. That I was one of the main contributors (probably at one point over 50% of the resources and I was turfed...speaks volumes.).
Cheers,
DD

The fact that people actually need to watch some guides to tell them how to use the website is surely an indication that isn't as usable as it could be? I've tried to use it several times but always end up lost and just give up. |

EFL 2.0 could use some streamlining, to be sure! Nice materials available there, and I like the fact that we can upload our own files--but as others have said, quite difficult to navigate. |
