|
|
So I have an interview at Kyungwon University on Friday and I'm trying to prepare for it as well as get some more info about the school. Is there anybody that is currently teaching there or has taught there in the past that can comment?
I've done a search and found some past topics in regards to this school:
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=106619&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=kyungwon&start=0
and
http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=59271&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=kyungwon&start=15
but I'd like to learn more about the real conditions. Specifically, do they have split shifts? Do they make you work both Summer and Winter vacations?
This would be my first university position and I would honestly be willing to put up with some bad in order to get my foot in the door, but I'm also at a pretty nice hagwon with a good setup and I don't want to sell myself short.
On a related note: This job would begin September 1st and my current contract ends September 11th. What kind of options do I have? Must I quit early and forfeit my bonus? I usually work from 4 to 9 or 10 and I was wondering if I might be able to work at both places for the less than two weeks to satisfy both.
Thanks in advance for taking the time to read and or comment. |

I know a couple of people who work there and like it. I also got hired there, but then chose another job. |

Thanks for the responses. Anybody else care to comment? Also, has anybody had experience changing jobs close to the end of their former contract? Thanks. |

I have an interview this Friday as well. It's a nice looking university near my home, and I'm sure the students would be better than the disrespectful and lazy college students I teach now, but I have some concerns as well. You should probably just ask questions at the interview. |

I will say one thing. The interviewers were really nice and didn't play the intimidation card. As well, they were completely open to answering questions. When I interviewed, I had an e-mail within 2 hours saying I was hired. |

ajgeddes, how long ago was your interview? Also, did you have to make a 5 minute presentation based on a lesson plan for a 50 minute lesson that you had 20 minutes to prepare? Wow that was a mouthful. Any tips otherwise? Any idea about what they are looking for in an applicant? |

I was interviewed in December-ish. Yes. Yes. Know what you are talking about. Someone who is professional and wants to teach. |

Punitive, illegal contracts at Kyungwon.
You have to give 60 days notice to quit AND repay a month's salary, they only have to give you 10 days notice to fire you. ILLEGAL.
You are to leave Korea within 4 days of expiration of contract. ILLEGAL. |

Was offered a job there about 5 years back, but turned it down due to the hiring lady being so pushy. Her manner totally turned me off... |
