I had an idea today about US beef. I was planning on buying some when it came into stores, then I thought better of it. From LMB's own words 'if there are any safety issues, the imports will be halted'.

Now, I would venture to guess that 99.5% of Koreans are not extreme enough to try anything so stupid, but it'd only take 1 nationalistic nutcase to sabotage the US beef in order to get it frozen. And judging from the protests I have witnessed in the last few days, 0.5% of Korea is a large number.

This is the most extreme case of brainwashing I have ever seen. People actually believe they will die if they eat US beef just once, and that Mad Cow's Disease can spread from person to person. I have confidence in US beef myself, but I am not taking the risk of some nutcase poisoning my meat.

ahhhhh.... if only PETA had thought of that before... damn it, I hope they haven't read this... Shocked

that's ok, if something like that happens, it only takes about 1784 nut jobs to poison the soju factories in retaliation... I think that's how many different "major" companies there are anyway Rolling Eyes

Smear some sort of foam all over your mouth, paint green sores all over your face, slap a big ole T-Bone American steak on the checkout counter at HomeEver, and then go into convulsions as you're about to pay.

But seriously, some WILL taint the beef, though I have my money on a Warehouse worker rather than some consumer, as they are mostly Union, and will have access to the beef behind closed doors.

Maybe Dr. Hwang can whip up a batch of Mad Cow spores for Korean Pride.

150 deaths worldwide.

the disease itself does sound horrendous, worse than catching HIV even.

but in a country that loves math so much it is amazing that there is such a blatant disregard of the basic statistics.

Don't you know they make beef bone soup.

Every good Korean eats at least ten bowls of it a day.

What about the "Weapons of Mass Destruction?" Americans were/are so afraid that they elected Bush twice. I mean... WTF. Shocked

BTW, lots of Koreans do not fear or care about eating American beef.

Though many Americans believed it and many didn't, I have yet to meet even 1 Korean who doesn't believe this one.

Yeah, and my mother put a bone in the crock-pot when she made beef stew. We didn't eat the bone nor do Koreans, their way of eating beef isn't that much different. Of course we didn't eat the intestines.

Let me go ahead and put a lid on that can of worms you just opened. The American public fell hook, line, and sinker for that, agreed. However, it was a PLAUSIBLE scenario. Saddam had 'em before, and used 'em before.

The stuff that people here are buying into is just utter nonsense.

The problem goes further than "just don't eat it", apparently, as explained by a group of adjummas I know.

Quote:
The dangerous and unacceptable US beef is being used in Korean schools, restaurants, cafeterias and Lord knows where else... Koreans can't just not eat it!!! Can't you see why the US is soooooo bad?!?

...or something along those lines...

Don't even try to point out the fact that the Korean owners of these schools, cafetrias, ... oh, never mind. Sad

The word 'frozen' can have more than one meaning.

In this case, make shipments freeze (stop).

What is the problem with frozen beef?

I really don't know about it, I don't eat beef.

Here's my beef, or should I say T-bone of contention with these protests:

It's just more evidence of xenophobia and a feeling of being unwelcome.

Other than the lucrative reason (making more money) and the personal reason (being married, engaged to or dating a Korean), why on earth would anyone want to continue teaching in a country where foreigners, especially Americans, aren't really made to feel welcome?
