CHARLESTON, S.C. Actor Bill Murray is a violent pot and alcohol addict who trolls for sex partners overseas, his wife claims in divorce papers.

In her petition filed in Charleston, S.C., Jennifer Butler-Murray suggests that she moved their family to South Carolina to try to cure Murray's cravings for pot, booze and sex to no avail, the New York Post reports.

"In 2006, the plaintiff moved to Sullivan's Island ... due to defendant's adultery, addiction to marijuana and alcohol, abusive behavior, physical abuse, sexual addiction [and] frequent abandonment," reads a complaint written by Butler-Murray's lawyer, Robert Rosen.

But even after the move, the "Lost in Translation" actor, 57, often vanished for days seeking sex and drugs, his soon-to-be ex-wife said.

"Defendant would often leave the state or country without telling the plaintiff," the petition reads. "Defendant travels overseas, where he engages in public and private altercations and sexual liaisons."

Murray and Butler-Murray married July 4, 1997, and they have four children Caleb James, 15, Jackson William, 12, Cooper Jones, 11, and Lincoln Darius, 7. Butler-Murray, 42, wants sole custody of the children.

I have always maintained that if a man is wandering around looking for sex, his wife isn't doing her part. Men need it, and if he isn't getting it at home, he's going to get it somewhere else.

After popping out four kids, a woman would have to be pretty darn special to still have the drive eh?

You have to wonder about a woman who would drag the good name of her husband who she has 4 children with through the mud for a divorce. What a sad reflection on her. I'm sure her children know the truth.

She is trying to claim sole-custody. May be it's drastic time for drastic measures?

Almost grown? You have a funny sense of what grown up means if you think 12, 11 and 7 are almost grown up.

It sounds to me like the woman was way too tolerant for way too many years.

She married a movie star. WTF do women expect these days when they marry someone who has money, popularity, and/or power? Fidelity? Ha.

That's even assuming half of what she says is true.

As for the above comment about the woman not providing it at home, I have to disagree. I grew up with a guy who now counsels sex addicts. She could be trying to give it to him every hour of every day whenever he wanted it, and if he was enough of a sex addict, she couldn't satisfy him.

I don't make it past the first sentence of such stories.

He's an actor, whose acting in works of fiction (movies) is what I watch and appreciate. I couldn't care less about his personal life.

Frank Sinatra was a murderer? Then convict him and stop him from making any more films or singing any more songs. His films and songs stand. His death was significant to signal the end of the career, details of how he deceased unnecessary except for the tragedy factor (how accidental it all ended).

The personal life of actors and singers and writers solely belong between the pages of celebrity magazines.

(Politicians, of course, are an entirely different kettle of fish.)

Okay, he was on SNL during the 1970s, so if he's tapered down to only pot and scotch in his old age, the problem is? You didn't know this before you married him? And he's a celeb. He's not banging exotic chicks? Violent?

I might be overly old-fashioned, but do people not get married based on mutual love, trust and honesty these days? Cos I surely did and 6 years on, my husband and I still hold strongly onto these believes.

Yes, the world has changed and people get married and divorced as easily as saying ABC, but you cannot marry a woman, and then criticise her for wanting fidelity, honesty, and all the things that are supposed to come with a union. You also cannot tell her *you should have known and expected it*. You get married because you want to show you are in love and you are willing to be faithful. NOT because you expect the person you marry to tolerate your behaviour the way it always has been. This kind of thinking totally defeats the purpose of a marriage.

If he wanted to continue to disappear unannounced then he should not have fathered 4 children. He could have remained single and led that kind of life and few would complain. He chose to have children. He deliberately took on obligations. If the reports are true, he is just selfish and irresponsible.

I agree. You can't have your cake and eat it. Even if you are a rich bugger.

you present a narrow and oversimplified version of marriage tha's no doubt in line with your own christian/ethnocentric ideas about the world.

but getting back on topic, yeah - if he's only toking up and drinking he's mellowed out quit a bit since his snl days.
