I've been here 3 months and I still don't have a cell-phone. Is it possible to get one without a Korean? The people at my school seem less than eager to help me get one and it'd be nice to have. |

Bring your passport and maybe your ARC to Technomart at Ganbyeon station on the green line in East Seoul. Go up to like the 8th floor, I believe. Walk around and you'll hear guys shouting, "Card-uh phone!"
Buy one for around 50,000 won or less and get some time with it. |

SK will give foreigners a full monthly rental program (same as the koreans get) if you take your ID card, maybe passport, and a 200,000 won deposit. then you buy the phone and away you go.
the best part is, if you're low on cash, you can pay off the phone in installments with your monthly bill.
i'd recommend going to a bigger SK centre, like technomart or in coex ... the small store front ones probably won't be interested in helping you unless you have a korean friend as backup. |

I plan to offer my old phone, and I thought first to ask you if you may be interested.
I have been saving it as a backup cause its a fine phone. It is a small format phone and I wanted a large format phone and I got one last year, so this one sits in its original box. I always had it in a protective case, so its very clean, except some small spots where the cover and phone contacted.
It has FM radio that works well.
It has hands free set.
It is LG Telecom or you can use prepaid card.
It is easy to get it registered.
It's this type of phone if you're interested:

I sent pics and info to your pm. Do you use pm? |

Yes many people are using the LG-LP3700 phone these days. It is a popular phone.
It is ergonomically designed to be comfortable in your hand.
It has an FM radio that sounds good. It looks good.
The batteries last for longer than most other phones.
It is still being sold new in some stores.
Of course these days you see many people with newer lightweight slide phones that have impossibly tiny text size.
I would need a magnifying glass to read the text on them. |
