Has anyone else noticed the increasing amount of discriminatory signs on the entrance to clubs in Hongdae?

e.g. "No cover charge for foreigners" or "Free entry for foreigners"

I've never seen those sings until recently. Why the sudden trend?

I remember only a while ago when foreigners would be discouraged from entering, or would have to pay a higher entry-fee than Koreans.

Yes, it's in my favour....but it's still discrimination. What do you think about this?

I'm all for a privately owned business such as a club being able to decide who can and can't come in. Gay and lesbian bars are just one such example of establishments who do this (not all though). However, I am just as much for the right of people to point out scumbags who refuse entry based on racial criteria, amongst other things. This case though, I do not know what to make of.

There are offensively referred to as kiggers. Think wigger, but Korean and sporting out of date fashions. Go to NB in Gangnam for a good example, or Harlem in Hongdae.

There are lot's of non-hiphop, non-kigger clubs in Hongdae. FF, Drug, Skunk Hell are the most well known ones, lots more around.

Kigger, that is great! I'm more interested to go to the non-hiphop clubs, but I will have to go sometimes just to laugh my butt off. Are there any pictures anywhere of these guys?

They frequent Itaewon quite a bit. I don't have pictures, I wouldn't waste my harddrive memory.

I really hate it when things like this (OP) happen. At least 3/4's of the fun of living here is whining about all the unfair, stupid etc things they do and when they stop it takes away my right to whine. Clearly I'm not the only one who feels this way because few are responding to the OP.

Kudos to the poster who figured out how to highjack the thread by talking about kiggers. Stroke of genius.

While we're on the subject of how people dress...did you see what Mary Lou wore to school today? What a loser!

Hongdae has gone downhill.

Anyways, its real easy to keep foreigners out of a club. All you gotta do is charge a cover, or more than 5,000w for a drink.

I guarantee 95% of foreigners would stay away. For example, I don't see too many foreigners in Apgujeong paying a 40,000w cover and 10,000w for drinks at clubs.

If "No Cover for Foreigners" is the new trend in Hongdae, I certainly consider it an improvement from how it was 1.5 years ago (see picture).
Still, I'd rather no form of special treatment based on race, whether it's to my advantage or not.
