Does anyone know of a free programme i can download that will let me convert files into MP4 format? I am looking for something that can convert a whole movie, not just five minutes.

It can be tricky to use, and the site is rotten, but I've yet to find an encoder more powerful than Super

I stumbled across this one last night and it seems pretty good.

Pick whichever one seems better for you and the Free Studio Manager will come with it. It's really easy to use.
Although I've not done a lot with it yet, I can verify that it converts youtube downloads as well as home vids into pretty good quality mpeg4 videos(depending on the original, that is). |

| winFF works pretty well. It converts anything into a format for ipod's. It's free, but a bit slow. |
