Has anyone switched from an E2 to an F2 in the middle of a PUBLIC school contract?
If so... what happens?
Does your pay stay the same?
Do you get any extra benifits? |

Why would your pay go up? You are the same teacher you were before...and you are on the same place on the pay scale (not to mention you signed a contract agreeing to be paid x for one year). In the public sector F-2 teachers are the same as E-2 teachers. Even if you came into the contract as an F2, you'd have trouble getting more than the basic - this applies if you deal with one of the major programs. If you deal directly with the school, the benefits of being F2 (yes, I can start this afternoon and no visa hassles) might work in your favour.
In terms of benefits, you may be able to get bigger housing (because you are now married not because you have an F-2), and you should get 7 days for your honeymoon - congratulation
It would be wonderful if you came to work one day, showed the principal your ARC with F2 stamped on the back and he said "Well, blimey an F2, here's a W500K/month raise and a company car!" But it doesn't work like that I'm afraid... |

The biggest benefit to an F-series visa is in direct negotiation with companies.
They know the costs associated to getting someone to Korea on an E-series visa. I know that for the organization I am with it is close to 1,500,000KRW + airfare. So when you deal with the company directly explain that to them and have them pay you an extra 100,000KRW a month.
As well, you can sell yourself as a long term employee, while the E-series visa will need to be renewed every year, you are a one-time commitment.
Perhaps the biggest selling point of the F-series is that you are now able to work anywhere you please, doing anything you please. If that E-series visa teacher gets caught teaching off-site it means penalties for the school and the teacher. However, if you get caught off-site teaching its a non-issue as long as taxes are being paid.
The E-Series visa just gives the hold permission to teach language at the place that their Visa sponsor lists. The F-Series can teach any subject, anywhere, anytime.
Of course you will need to explain this to 95% of the people out there as they have no clue about the differences between an E-series visa and an F-Series Visa. The Immigration Bureau needs to make us a pamphlet we can hand out to potential employers. |

Really? I see lots of job offers for for F2 teachers at a significantly higher rate than most schools offer. More in the neighborhood of 3 to 3.5m
Also the public school offers a "max" of 3.0 to F2 visas... I thought maybe that changed something.

The only real difference is that your sponsor is changed from your employer to your wife and you should get your 7 days special leave AND larger housing. (oh, and they may very well try to screw you out of your return airfare since you won't be leaving Korea at the end of your term).
Congrats. |

I don't know who you are working for but in the current GEPIK contracts (for example):
Article 10
2. Housing selected by Employer may be, including but not limited to, a leased house, dormitory, or an apartment. A single teacher will be provided with a one-room apartment on or off campus, and a married teacher with dependents will be provided with a residence with at least two bedrooms. Any and all fees, charges, costs, taxes, expenses, etc. additional to monthly renting fees and/or key money incurred in using the housing shall be borne by Employee. (e,g. monthly electrical, water, gas fees)
Article 14(Special Leave)
1.Employee may take a Special Leave for a number of days as set forth below for each of the following events;
a. Seven(7) consecutive calendar days for Employees marriage.

ttompatz--
I was told that if I were to get married then I would only receive 300,000 housing allowance, not a two-bedroom. Which is correct? |
