I was fired May 13th, and have yet to go into immigration to get my exit order. Does immigration give extensions past the exit order date? I guess an exit order is just that and I would have to exit, but I'm planning on bringing my, hopefully, employer-to-be with me to extend the exit order date past the 29 or 30 days from May 13th if they were to give me that date to leave. I've already signed the contract and they have my 2 sealed transcripts and diploma, etc. They would probably give me until June 11th or 12th. I'm still waiting for my criminal report and have to go to my embassy to swear an affidavit. After that, I'll have all my docs. But I'm afraid they won't have time to process it.

Maybe there are exceptions and special circumstances and having a Korean, especially my new employer-to-be go in with me will help the situation.

The expiry date on my ARC is still March 2nd, 2009 (as per immigration over the phone today), but I have to go into immigration. It seems the last employer maybe lied when they told me they cancelled it, but that I have to go in to release it or something (their words). At first I had to call them to ask them (former employer) what was going on with my ARC and they told me that they cancelled it on May 15th and that it was now a tourist visa. Total BS because that's impossible.

I'd like to call my ex-employer to give them sheet, but I'm not even going to call them. I'll let immigration do that.

Anyone know about extensions if you have a good reason? Maybe immigration would just let my current visa status remain as is and suggest to me to cancel the ARC once they have all the documents to process. Or they might give me more time.

I hope.

I don't mean to be rude...but didn't ttompatz give you the information you needed already??

And you still haven't gone down to immigration??

Otherwise...your employer still, as of today has not canceled your visa? If not...you are going to need to deal with that first. Your future employer is not going to be able to sponsor you...or transfer you depending on your situation...without your written release and confirmation of that release with Immigration.

I'd get on that first. It will also require that you deal with your former employer. Go take a seat in the "lounge" until you have your letter of release in hand. Make sure the name of the school, name of employer, school's registration number, his/her signature....as well as all of your personal info including passport and ARC number...appear on that document.

They should also give it a red "stamp" as well....Koreans love their stamps Wink

Korean Immigration will not obtain your letter of release for you...it's not their job/responsibility. If you wish to continue to work here...that responsibility falls on you.

Personally...I would draft the letter myself...have him/her fill out the pertaining information...watch him/her sign it...then leave and make a beeline for the immigration office.

Once you're there, you should be able to have your other questions answered fairly easily.

But...your boss did have it semi-accurate saying that you would be on a tourist visa. Once your work visa is canceled, you are tourist status...and a trip to immigration, once you have your release letter, will make that status even clearer to all parties involved.

Your tourist status will give you an additional 30--180 days of sojourn depending on you nationality. During that window of opportunity...it sounds like you'll have time to complete your documentation and sponsorship issues.

Make sure your new employer is ready to send you...and pay for...your trip to Fukuoka.

Good luck.
