All of a sudden, a bunch of websites are blocked both at school AND at home (i use the school's internet, unfortunately).

Websites such as Blogspot.com. When I type it in, I get this:
http://www.sendb.go.kr/

Is it normal? Anyone else?

Use a proxy website such as pro.xynu.de (though they unfortunately added NSFW images recently). You can just search for proxy sites through google, you'll find dozens of them.

You must be using the school's internet at home as well?

I just checked blogspot....no problems here.

It did come up in Korean first...I did have to change the language...but I still have access.

Who's your provider?

Yeah, you're on the school's Internet and the government blocks loads of websites at the schools. You'll likely be unable to log onto any website you have to access through a proxy. At least it's free, right?

ciccone_youth...

Ask the school to help sign you up for your own service.

I use Hanaro Telecom currently...I have HanaTV...a DVR cable service...and my internet...I pay 40,000 per month.

No DVR...just internet with Hanaro...I believe is 28,000 per month.

It might be worth looking into...it's so much cheaper than back home.

my (public) school blocks wikipedia, so I have to use a proxy server or mirror site, both of which are way too slow. I have no idea what the rationale is for blocking wikipedia... does anyone else at a public school have that problem?

I used to subscribe to KT Telecom, but I quit using them because they blocked websites (North Korean propaganda websites and strangely, the Metropolitician's blog. But after switching to Hanaro Telecom, no problems whatsoever. Even my Internet and downloads are faster as a result of the switch.

The only disadvantage to using the proxies is that they don't allow for things like Flash animations or Downloads. The North Korean sites don't have much in the way of multimedia crap thankfully.

BTW, has anyone checked the North Korean websites lately. I've looked at those sites a few months ago and it seems like Crazy Kim's henchmen don't update their websites that much.

They have blocked a crap ton of sites for me on my schools internet.

Not blog spot, but they hit okcupid, and kontraband

You can use proxies and still log in/download.

Try this site, it's what I use for the blocked sites:

http://www.zend2.info/index.php

It's a bit slower, but since most of the sites I need aren't blocked I would rather not spend the 30 bucks a month

I actually had some threads from Dave's coming up with a strange message in Korean while at school. I was able to read them at home though. One of the threads was something about crazy things happening in the classroom.

Anyone else have threads blocked at school?
