I heard somewhere that it had closed, and Shohtravel told me that they didn't know if Americans could enter right now. Soho also told me that a visa to China is a whopping 135,000 won right now!

It's closed for travel the last time I heard. You actually want to go there now?

Hell yeah I do. It should be safe in about four months when my contract ends.

You have to apply for a special entry permit into Tibet through a licensed travel agency separate from your China visa. I'm sure there are some travel agencies in Korea that are licensed to process Tibet tours, but it'll probably be a hassle and some paperwork and a little extra money besides.

If you want to see Yellow Hat Buddhist temples, Mongolia is free visa upon entry for Americans.

I want to ride that train from Beijing into Lahasa. It looks like an amazing ride.

I think you can go as far as Lhasa on a regular tourist visa, not past there though.

The soho travel agent acts like it will be difficult for an american to travel there. Is this true? Also, is it really dangerous there right now?

Is Tibet open for travel?

Ask the Han Chinese communists over 4000 km away in Beijing.
