Considering he was quite famous (infamous) for a long time before he was killed, I don't think that's why he is famous. |
Not being retarded myself, I obviously know that he wasn't famous just because he was shot in the back lol.... (why does everyone here assume everyone else is stupid...)
I mean the whole hero veneration deal with people calling Ford a coward and looking down on him. I mean if I was the offspring of a father that James gunned down in cold blood giving him no chance to defend hiself I would pretty much think he was a coward and be congratulating Ford whole heartedly.
I'm not saying that in many respects Ford wasn't a coward (physically.) Though in the movie, he DOES have courage of his convictions at least. He is mocked and jibed for his adulation of James yet doesn't change who he is or hide his feelings. And whilst he murdered innocents in cold blood, I'm sure James would have had the balls to face up to any or most people if challenged. So obviously the term 'coward' can be very ambiguous.
But the way James was venerated after his death and Ford condemned by many, smacks of Moronosity (my word) to me. |

*Spoiler Alert*
^^In some respects, that's what I enjoyed about the movie. Up until the point when Robert Ford shot him, Jesse James was portrayed as being a highly unstable, unconscionable and murderous outlaw whereas the Ford character came across as being (relatively) rational and all together more 'human'. It was only once he'd killed him that these roles became so vividly juxtaposed.
One thing that did bother me about the film was the subtle suggestion that James already knew his fate. When he saw the article in the newspaper regarding Liddel's confession, I assumed that the three of them were going to step outside and do things the 'cowboy' way i.e. have a shoot out. The way the scene then played out was just a little too animated and spiritual and that it seemed to be trying to muster up a bit of audience sympathy for James when throughout the entire movie we had no reason to do so. |

You're reading more into my post than I put in it. I only disagreed with what you wrote and didn't pass judgement on your intellectual abilities. |
