heading to gyeongju on Thursday morning for a few days, any advice on what to do there, where is good to eat and any nice enough places to stay, not too fussed at staying in the hostel there though.

oh yeah, my g.f is allergic to seafood, i'm not too fussed on it myself.

cheers

there is lots to do in gyeongju.....
i recommend renting a bike, you will see them in front of the bus station and down the street! you can bike everywhere in the city!

there is a resort that you can take a bus to get to, and it has great dining in the hilton hotel. also there is gyengju world there, small amusement park with petting zoo.

you can bike to the temple, bulkugska, you can see tumili park, the famous pond etc...

if you walk straight behind the bus station you will see tons of hotels that are reasonable...between 30 and 40,000 won.

there are lots of fancy hotels on the resort but i imagine they are quite costly.....

Hiking on Namsan and finding all the old relics is great.

Avoid taking the long trip to the "Sea Tomb" unless you want to see some rocks in the ocean.

Good topic. I would say Namsan is essential. Fantastic hike that was.

What are people's opinions on the temples aside from bulguksa?

just back from gyeongju, had a great time, stayed in a love motel next to the bus terminal,,,,it was called the cherbourg or something to that effect, 42inch plasma, huge bath tub and shower, massive kingsize bed and a computer in the room.

the tv allowed you to watch about 80 different movies, most korean, but some good english ones, and it also had the ability to view whatever you were looking at on the pc...oh and the pc came with rambo 4 to watch...i didn't get to watch it though cos i was with my g.f.....however juno is quite good!!!

the motel room was 50,000 a night.

i would highly recommend bulguksa, but when you're done with the old fashioned sightseeing, go down to the river (get off the bus at the expo) and get an A.T.V for an hour, the rental on them in 25,00 for a 50cc and 30,000 for a 125cc.. i mean you may as well get the 125cc as it only makessense Laughing Laughing ..you can have great fun on them, i know i did, my g.f had a great time on hers too, we decided to get two, cos she likes looking around her and i like seeing how fast it goes (i got 65 km/h on it), they look for a license on before renting them but just make up any excuse and give them your i.d card, i'm not sure if the license is a neccessity or they just like to have some sort of i.d to keep hold of but the first ppol said we couldn't use them without a driving license so we went to another place and just mumbled geoje-do when they asked about it...worked ok for us and they only took my i.d not my g.f's so i don't think they are too fussy!!
