I apologize about all the Thailand questions recently.
Anywho, I was looking at flights from Bangkok to Koh Samui (round trip). I found Thai Air for 230 and Bangkok Air for 275. I'm going late July and this is peak season.
Questions:
Book Now?
Any other place to find cheaper airfare?
Should I wait and book right when I get into Bangkok at a Travel Agent (2 days before I want to venture out to the islands)? Keep in mind, peak season.
Thanks again. Very informative as of lately. |

| Last time I checked Bangkok Airways had specials that run daily but you'll have to depart at 6 am. The flight sells out often, so check the site. |

There are something like 16 flights a day from BKK to Koh Samui, your best bet is Asia Air, Nok Air or Bangkok Airways- you can book online with all these airlines. Forget the big carriers, they're usually overpriced.
See I can be helpful sometimes Mummy's boy. |

| Whatever you do don't make a hotel reservation at the airport. That's a big rip off. |

| Unless something has changed, Bangkok Airways owns the Koh Samui airport. For a long time, they had a monopoly on flights there. If the extra money isn't a big concern, go with Bangkok Airways. Thai's good but Bangkok's in a league of its own. All passengers are given access to their airport lounges, for example, and the service is exemplary. |

| Yea, that Lomprayah bus/boat service is good for 975 baht, but takes about 12 to 14 hours each way. |

How about the girls, beer bars, and night life in Krabbi? |

Krabbi is considered more of a place for couples and families. It has a large peaceful Muslim community. If you are looking for the kind of nightlife you'll easily find in Pattaya or Patong beach in Phuket you'll be disappointed. Most of the locals would be turned off your mongering behavour as they tend to be much more conservative than Thai's in more touristy provinces. However it is highly unlikely that a hotel owner would not allow you to bring an overnight guest into your room. They are very accomidating.
However if you look really hard you'll find it. The best place to go is some of the many beer bar clusters in Au Nang beach. Most of them are off the main drag. Any bar that offers Janga, Connect 4, will have bargirls working there.. There is a dirt road off the main drag that looks like something out of Angeles city. Also Krabbi town has Karoke bars with darkened windows. They offer a little more than the standard Karoke. |

Seconded.
We did this our first time through and the agency had overbooked the bus. It was one of those double-decker buses, but the bottom was being used as the luggage rack.
It was so packed that six of us got put on the bottom level, with all of the luggage. There were still seats down there, but there was also a giant wall o'bags and we were not allowed to open the curtains or windows and look outside because they were worried that we'd get stopped by the cops.
The bathroom had not been cleaned out between trips and was out of toilet paper and slosh full. Every time the bus hit a bump, the door would fly open and a river of urine would run down the aisle between our seats and soak into the bags sitting at the bottom of the pile.
It wreaked of piss and sh*t, and we were sitting next to it for 12 hours (14 hours? can't remember how long it took...)
We eventually got used to it, but it's not something I'd choose to do again. I'm all about flying it now. |

| Is it a lot cheaper to book a flight from Bangkok/Ko Samui in advance rather than just flying to Bangkok and buying a ticket from there at the airport? |
