What the hell are you talking about? My first reply wasn't insulting you in any way, it was merely a well-established observation on religion in Korea. Holy fucking persecution complex!

The Witnesses seem to be an exception to your "observation."

Teachergirltoo, thanks for the links. It's disappointing to see that there hasn't been more progress on this issue.

This is a whole can of worms type of thing. Just like the thread I started about dual citizenship, the Korean gov't can't appear to be weak with respect to young men refusing to do their military service. They must make the alternative (jail/prison) as undesirable as possible.

If they make exceptions for Jehova's Witnesses and let them do alternatives (whether the JW's, as a matter of faith, accept it or not is another matter), what's to stop any non-religious young man from joining the JW's to avoid military duty? I could just see the JW's becoming the most popular religion here for young men 18-24 years old...
