Most people in Korea could probably spit on seven from their windows. |

They are licensed, regulated and under the jurisdiction of their respective provincial offices of education so there really is no national database or count.
There are several 10's of thousands listed / advertising on Naver. |

There are 49 million people in Korea?
I'm guessing that 70% of them attend an English Hakwon. Round abouts 30-35mil people?
Average school has probably 100-500 students?
Somewhere between 70,000 and 350,000 Hakwons then???
I'm guessing that about 80% or so have foreign teacher?
Toooootally pulling these numbers out of my nose, without the slightest basis for any of it |

Well, didn't you hear about Korea's contribution to the International Space Station?
I hear they're attaching an English hagwon to it |

Lemme have a go...
49 million people. # of people age 5 to 21....maybe 13 million?
% that attend English hakwon? maybe 65.
that have foreign teachers? don't know, but in my town there are maybe 45 english hakwons and only about 5 foreigners. the rest work in public schools and unis.
the end result is that I have no idea how many hakwons are in korea.
25,000 wouldn't surprise me. |
