before i came to korea i was kind of excited about checking out cool gadgets that you wouldnt' be able to find in th u.s. I haven't found any.
anybody know any cool things you can buy here that you can't find back home, like cool cell phones, mp3 player, computers, stuff like that or maybe stuff you can find home but you find them much cheaper here? |

From whatn I've read and seen things aren't really incredibly cheap compared to the US. I know that when I read Engadget there seems to be a bunch of Samsung/LG stuff that rarely seems to show up stateside, but most of those seem to be limited to somewhat crappy Mp3 players, or phones.
I asked this my first week to some teachers from Korea, and they all seemed to think that Japan was the place to go for cheap, good electronics. Sort of a let down, but whatever. |

Even though it seems ridiculous, you can probably get a better deal on Korean made electronics in the US than you can in Korea. There is little to no competition in Korean markets, so prices are a little inflated. It is true, for good deals on electronics you need to go to Japan, or, more conveniently, search around the gray markets, like Yongsan, for illegally imported goods that you can get a deal on.
Check the tech forum, there are stickies in there that can help, and people who know about this sort of thing. |
