A computer with those specs will probably have at least a 40k case. Might have an 80k one. Fans will cost at least 10k. The best new price is probably right around 900k.
Like I said, 700k would be quite fair. |

Let's break this down:
Quote: |
"I already know that I will take a loss from what I spent for it,"
"if anybody is interested they can take the bus down here, or drive down and come pick it up, but this is the reason the computer is so cheap ... I'm not willing ... to really really inconvenience myself to do it"
"I bought it about a three weeks ago"
"$700 is straight up insulting... $700 would be like cost of parts alone. Minimum. An OEM with this would easily be in the $2500 plus range"
"Yeah, if the prices are 800 at a minimum, why would I sell it for half of that? |
Conversely we could say -> "Yeah, if the prices are 800 at a minimum (for a BRAND NEW SYSTEM) why would you try to sell it (used) for 1.5 times that?"
Have a look again at your first post. It's pretty obvious you were looking to sell this to some sucker who is easily led, or knows little about tech. You pitched your computer as "High end" even though it has an average CPU and a well below average monitor. You mention that you are taking a loss on the sale multiple times. Maybe you got a really bad deal, but computers generally don't lose (assuming you paid a few hundred more than your asking price new, which would put it at $1500+) just under 1/2 of their value in 3 weeks, especially ones that consists of mostly middle of line components.
You also listed games/software/MP3s as selling points in an attempt to value add, even though you obviously downloaded them for free.
$700 is straight up insulting, even though it is the cost of the parts (new) alone? Buying a 2nd hand computer is a bit like a lottery. There are a whole lot of things that can go wrong in 3 weeks. You might have forgot to plug in a fan somewhere/shorted something/overheated your CPU when you overclocked it to 3Ghz/dropped a HDD while installing etc etc... If $700 is the new cost of all the parts, it is hardly an insulting offer (taking the unknown into consideration).
Not only were you trying to sell a used computer at 1.5x the price of a brand new system, you weren't willing to "inconvenience" yourself. The buyer would have to catch 2 direct(? a choice of 2? a transfer?) buses and travel 5 hours to get it. A small price to pay for such a great deal...
I don't know you from a bar of soap, you might be a really great guy/gal, but thats a pretty sleazy way to do business. Yes, they were pretty direct and rude, but can you really blame everyone for "jumping down your throat" given the way it looks? |

I guess in the end they’re treating me like a store. I’m not a store, I’m just some guy looking to sell his stuff. I put $1200 on it originally because I’m not Best Buy. I put $1200 on it so that if somebody was interested they would talk me down to 800 or 900, and then probably just actually deliver it myself because most cat’s probably wouldn’t want to drive down here anyways.
Seeing as how most stores here are a bargaining system I thought that it wouldn’t be too foreign of a concept to associate with a forum post. If I put 900 on it originally it’s going to get talked down to 700 or something.
The simple fact remains that several of the posters calling it an unfair, or outrageous price would be saying almost the same thing if I put 200 dollars on it. They’re just here to hassle me, and I can understand that. I’m not going to put the actual price I wanted right on the top because I expect people to want a better deal on it. Same with me, I put a higher price on it hoping that somebody will only talk me down 100 instead of 500. This isn’t really shady, it’s just how barter systems are run.
Perhaps some of my wording was off, but again from a selling viewpoint putting “high end” is better than putting “high-mid-range” which, while maybe accurate, is just confusing as hell.
Finally, poita and a few others, thank you. If you don’t agree with what I’m saying you don’t have to be a dick, call me dumb/troll/somebody’s tool just because you have nothing better to do then surf the forum all day. I appreciate well thought out, and not turd-ish responses. |

I think most people who saw your posting were offended because you attempted to insult their intelligence. The 'best thing' about this setup is a crappy old 19" monitor? Did you think your list of pirated software would attract a buyer? Can anyone believe that you purchased a budget-conscious Pentium dual-core and unintentionally tried to pass it off as a Core2 duo? Is this rig actually 'high-end'? Your sales attempt reeks of frugality and manipulation. |

There yo go again...your com is extreme low mid or high low, if you will. Also, I sense by your last post that perhaps you're not a native speaker. Are you Korean? Not that it matters, I'm just curious. |

Wow. Just wow. You just turned from annoying into mildly racist. What would it matter if I wasn't a native speaker? More importantly, what, in my well thought out and grammatically correct posts, has led you to such an odd accusation? Is it my spelling, or the fact that I called you creepy? Oh, it must be the part where I stated that a sentence would be more confusing because it was hyphenated in an odd manner.
What if I am Korean? Are you going to “go to town” on me, and “school me” in your fancy child molestor-ish ways? Does it make my selling tactics any more or less appropriate?
Also, including “Not that it matters” has never really been a way to negate dumb comments. “Are you black? Not that it matters.” See? Still inappropriate.
Yes, I actually did mislabel my processor. If I really wanted to troll through here I probably wouldn’t have done such a bad job at listing my products. I would’ve researched all the numbers, and just posted them instead of accidently posting inaccurate information. You’re treating this like I’m actively trying to scam people, but I’m simply trying to sell my computer like I would at a garage sale. I’m not gonna put what I want. I’m going to put higher and get talked down. |

Your computer is decent. Your asking price is unreasonable (bargaining or not). Why should anyone that lives 5 hours away travel to buy it when they can do some leg work at Yongsan and get virtually the same thing for less? You should market it to those that don't have access to Seoul and lower your price. |

isak,
spliff doesn't have what it takes to be a racist.
Seriously though, you are overreacting a little. I don't think he meant anything by it. The truth of the matter is your asking price was a little high, IMHO. I made a similar post trying to prove my point. And I got spliffed as well. See my point? And nobody is going to bargain for that much. |
