Given Obama's increasingly populist, "outsider" message and his promises to shake up Washington, I wonder if the JFK/MLK comparisons he drew on earlier are not off base. Sounds increasingly like Jefferson and Jackson to me...

CNN Ticker wrote:
Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic Party's presumptive presidential nominee, signaled Thursday that he really means business when it comes to health care reform.

An elderly African-American man presented Obama, the first African-American to secure the nomination of a major party, with a gift. Charles Edwards, who told Obama he was 95 years old, gave Obama a long maple walking stick.

"It's beautiful," Obama told Edwards. "And, if members of Congress don't pass my health care bill, I'm ready," Obama said wielding the stick as supporters laughed and cheered.

"I'll whup 'em," he joked. "They better not mess with me. I'll have that stick."

Good to hear him advocate particular proposals, even if he doesn't delve into details. The vacuous 'change' message may have been appropriate for the primary, but I like it better when he frames policy within his message of hope.

I hope we will hear much more on the specifics and get into detailed compare-and-contrast discussions re: McCain and Obama, and not celebrations on each other's faults and shortcomings. My mind is pretty much made up on this choice. But I am open to being surprised.
