What a joke. I bought a brand new Sony Vaio from a legitimate, national electronics store, and got pirated software. When I complained, he stated that, "all Koreans know that when you request English OS or something, it is always non-genuine." OK, so it wasn't said exactly like that but... In addition to all the pirated software on legitimately sold PCs and laptops in Korea, one only needs to walk through Itaewon, Yongsan, or numerous other parts of the city to find pirated DVDs, software, and merchandise... Takes a lot of nerve to hold Intel to a standard that Koreans so flagrantly violate.

Lonestar.

Intel.

What's the next international company on the hit-list? Pretty soon, nobody will want to do business here.

What they are going to do is plunge themselves right back into recession. Lets see who comes running to help them this time. You can burn only so many bridges.

Didn't intel pull out of a research facility in Korea? Could this be retaliation?

Yes, Intel has closed a R&D facility in Bundang (or are planning to shortly). However, according to the following article, no jobs should be lost as all employess were offered employment elsewhere or offered severence. Hmm...

Quote:
The commission said that Intel provided rebates to Samsung Electronics Co. and Trigem Computer Inc. to not use central processing units, or CPUs, manufactured by AMD, Intel's main competitor.

Samsung spokeswoman Lee Soo-jeong said the company had no comment.

Trigem spokesman Bang Yeong-il said that rebates were used legally for joint marketing.

So they are in trouble for offering special deals to Samsung and Trigem (which are essentially a large chunk of Korea's computer industry), which Korea took advantage of... and now Korea is penalizing them for offering it after they've enjoyed the benefits?

Again... sounds like Lonestar.
