LMAO. It has actually become a source of great entertainment to me in the past few days when I have time to check my mail between classes.
However, I'm fighting a one man battle against insurmountable odds on youtube.com
*edit* I did not make the video below...and I highly disagree with just about everything he's saying. I was posting comments on the video when I was swarmed by K-Netizens.
Watch the following video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTp75AF9n18#B8OtmX1XYFg
And feel free to leave your opinion. Below the video you will notice a cluster *beep* of arguments coming from the Koreans against yours truly. To be fair, I've also resorted to irrationality. Feel free to join the fray if you have time to waste.
Uncle Sam needs you.

I find it hard to take seriously someone wearing a teapot cosy on their head. |

I find it really distortive that you say the "U.S" has used "democracy" as something to expand power (which is true, but it hugely varies based on the administration).
That is to say, did the Carter administration use "U.S. power" in democracy promotion in the same way that the Reagan administration (in the Iran Contra affair, e.g., versus Carter's getting a peace accord between Israel and Egypt) did?
I mean, dumb slacker ramblings aren't really all that helpful, or remotely convincing.
We need to focus on what policies we need vis a vis Korea when Obama is elected president. Or at least, if you support McCain, what you would do if you supported him.
Cut the crap. In my mind we need to apporoach Korea with a put up or shut up agreement: do you want free and fair trade or not? If not, we're gonna tax those samsung products.
As for North Korea, we *will* talk to kim jung il, any time, any place. But if he wants to survive he's gonna have to deal on nukes. |

Absolutely. The US needs to pull the troops out, and make it as difficult for Korean exporters as Korea makes it for US exports. It's really as simple as that. If Korea doesn't like it they had better learn to play the game fairly. |

Sorry Tristan...that's about all I got from your video as well.
Do I think this situation is asinine...absolutely...but do I think the semi-coherent ramblings of an idealist will affect change...sorry...I can't back you up there.
Develop an argument...prepare...statistics...scientific studies...something...we all know Bak's approval rating is in the crapper...give me more. Take the beanie off...stop the arm scratching...it's distracting as all hell...and look your audience in the eye.
I appreciate your contribution...every little bit helps...but before you put yourself out there in cyberspace again...prepare a bit more. |

I don't think that's Tristan in the video; I got the impression that he was strongly opposed to the video guy's arguments (or lack thereof). |

Hey guys! I think there was a slight miscommunication. I didn't make the video. I posted the link because I HATE this video and I'm having a free for all war of words with the Korean netizens who DO support it.
My name is "citystories" in the argument threads.... lol |

Argh, it's not my video - and, by the way, this guy is not helping our cause in any way at all. |

Yes! I probably should have clarified it all a little better. |

Don't waste your time trying to discuss these matters with Koreans. They have been brainwashed from an early age with warped pro-Korean rhetoric.
I tried to explain last night to my girlfriends sister that America is not the enemy. I was trying to explain that the result of WW2 resulted in the end of the Japanese occupation of Korea. She refused to accept this and when i asked her whether the allied forces had won the war she refused to answer yes or no. She said it was a grey area.
My opinion is similar to that of a poster above. Korea either wants to play with the big boys or it doesn't. If Korea wants access to the US market then the US should have access to the Korean market. The beef problem aside, Korea has been leeching of America long enough.
Regarding the removal of US troops from SK, this could be a disaster waiting to happen. If you look at the main points of the 'Korean Federation Unification Plan' by North Korea it can give you some insight into what the North wants to happen and why the South needs the US army. |

The US government has no right to tax the products that American citizens need and use. Such a policy will reduce American wealth by increasing the cost of goods for US citizens and decreasing competition. That policy is not in the economic self-interest of the US.

How does negotiating with a thug accomplish anything? You can't compromise with someone who is committed to your destruction, since any compromise would mean harm for you. The only time you can come to compromises or negotiations is when two people agree on the basic moral principles involved. For example, you can negotiate with your grocer the price of the bread you're going to buy. But that is different from holding up your grocer with a gun, stealing the bread, and then offering him a concession as a throwback. |
