Sounds interesting... is there a link (English) I could check out to stay up to date on the status?
I assume the tickets will be at Hana Bank if they are playing. |

Agreed. I feel sorry for Park, playing in Uk and doing so well, and then coming back here to play with a real bunch of twats.

Korea was awful Saturday night despite having most of its best players. Park Ji-sung is good, but I'm sure it's much different having to play with Koreans than his teammates at Manchester United. And yes, the chronic Korean problem of finishing lingers on.
Huh never should've been hired as coach, and the last game has made this crystal clear. I predict he won't last past the Olympics. |

Huh is not the coach for the olympic team. I believe it is Park Sung Hwa, the coach of Gyeongnam last year. |

Korea won 3-1 over Turkmenistan, but two of those scores were penalties that Turkmenistan could've avoided. Korea looks lackluster as ever, and it ain't looking good for coach DUH Jung-moo. |

Games like this are little for anyone to be excited about.
Korea can sure as heck beat down teams like Turkmenistan, Bosnia, and the like, but crumble under any real competition.
You can't blame the coach. Most of the players on the team are real twats.

Only Korea's thrid goal was off a penalty. Turkmenistan's goal was on a PK that was a questionable call, the ball was not playable when the Korean goalkeeper took down the "Turkey." The Koreans PK was deserved as the keeper took down the Korean player and denied him a scoring opportunity.
Overall, I thought Korea could have played better, but they rested many big names and winning on the road is always difficult. |

Really??? You can't blame a coach that says he is going to use his old players like Ahn Jung Hwan, who is terrible, to get them through to the second round. Even if they are real twats, I can only think of 3, he is the one that chose those twats.
I am waiting for a post from you that doesn't bash Korean sports just for the heck of it.
As far as the "big" games go, they tied France in the World Cup in 2006. How is it that you never refer to a game like that in all of your constructive posts?
Did you even stay up to watch the game? Try watching the games and then forming your opinion.
As far as my opinion goes, the team has plenty of talent but can't use that talent to the fullest when playing out of position. Huh Jung Moo put Park Chu Young as a striker even after showing in the 3 previous games he is terrible there. He continues to play Seol even though he is useless. The only thing I can give him credit for is not playing Ahn Jung Hwan last night.
Kim Do Hyeon is the best Korean soccer player IMHO. His first goal last night was pure class no matter who the opponent was. Plus getting a hat trick for your national team is always great. It will be interesting to see him in the EPL next year. |

I call them how I see them. When the Korean team shows more class, I will give them the credit due.
Yes, a few players on the team are legitimately good players, but most of the old veterans (and a few young ones) are real glory hogging cunts. I am glad to see we agree on one point (Ahn Jung Hwan sucking).
I lost the last shred of respect I had for them in that 1st game against Yo-ru-dan. Cho Won-Hee so clearly dove and then 2 'stars' had an argument over who should get the penalty kick.

South Korea will face North Korea again on the road to the World Cup. This is not good news for anyone who wants to watch decent football as the two recent clashes between North and South produced some of the ugliest matches you are ever likely to see.
Anyway, the draw was extremely cruel to South Korea and they have a very hard group.
Top-2 in each group will qualify for the World Cup.
Teams finishing 3rd will get another chance - they will play each other and the winner of the play-off will take on the Oceania winner (likely to be New Zealand) for a place in the World Cup finals.
Group A
Australia
Japan
Bahrain
Uzbekistan
Qatar
Group B
South Korea
Iran
Saudi Arabia
North Korea
United Arab Emirates
South Korea's fixtures:
Sep 10: North Korea (A)
Oct 15: UAE (H)
Nov 19: Saudi Arabia (A)
Feb 11: Iran (A)
April 1: North Korea (H)
June 6: UAE (A)
June 10: Saudi Arabia (H)
June 17: Iran (H)
H - at home (Korea)
A - away

This is interesting to see, as Korea finally actually has to work at it.
After the draw with NK, they said 'let's go to world cup together'. Not looking too likely.
I predict Iran and SK to go, and NK will almost qualify but not quite. But then again, I could definitely see Saudi Arabia qualifying. They're decent.

That's a terrible draw for South Korea. The only way it could've been worse: Uzbekistan (or even Qatar) in UAE's place. UAE are clearly the weakest qualifier and they proved by nearly blowing it when they lost 3-1 to Syria at home in the last match.
Initially I thought Japan for Iran or Saudi Arabia would've been also (marginally) worse, but then thought that Koreans always give a little extra against the Japanese.
South Korea's most recent result (in qualifying competitions) against their group opponents:
v Saudi Arabia L 0-2 (a), L 0-1 (h) - 2006 World Cup qualification (also 1-1 @ 2007 AFC Asian Cup)
v Iran D 1-1 (h), L 0-2 (a) - 2007 AFC Asian Cup qualification (also 0-0 @ 2007 AFC Asian Cup)
v North Korea D 0-0 (a), D 0-0 (h) - 2010 World Cup qualification
v UAE W 2-0 @ 2004 AFC Asian Cup,
Korea will obviously have to improve on those showings, as well as their performances this year.
In the end, they will be expected to get at least 3rd place in this group and if they do finish 3rd then they will be strong favourites to navigate their way past one of Uzbekistan/Bahrian/Qatar and then New Zealand. |
