Hi all.

For some reason the Esnips website just wont work on either my or the schools internet/PC's.
Other than the game 'Simon Says' and the song 'This is the way we wash our hands' etc .... do any of you have any other ideas for a game or activity to include use of phrases such as wash your hands, open/close your mouth, stand up/sit down etc?

Thanks so much in advance.

Wink

This is pretty similar to "simon says" but...

I just had the kids listen and gave them directions, open/close your book, stand up/sit down, open/close your mouth, wash your hands/face, touch your nose/ear, etc. and I went increasingly faster and faster...kids who did the wrong thing or didn't get it before I went on to the next instructions were out.

Pretty basic, but they seemed to really like it. I was ready to go on to the next part of the lesson but they kept saying, "Teacher, again..."

Sorry, not an idea that's going to win any awards--but it worked pretty well.

Alternatively, you could take the time to teach them about some much-needed hygienic practices, and the reason WHY washing one's hands is a good idea. Never mind, you should definitely save that one for an open class, and have them invite all of their extended family. Laughing

I did the same as yoja with the added extra of getting a few of the students to be the 'teacher' & I went & sat in their place & played along with everyone else. They always love it when you make a show of getting it wrong now & then & they have to correct you.

anyone have a link to these two esnips websites?

I'd be interested in seeing them.

Great idea for the lesson, BTW.

I can't access the website anymore, so I can't give you any direct links. I originally found the 3rd/4th grade folders by doing a search for 'GEPIK' at Esnips.com .

I think it has something to do with the school internet settings which prevent me from accessing that website.

Not sure how your seating arrangement is, but you can do the whisper race.

Have one row of students face you, with the students from the other rows with their backs to you. Make a gesture to that row, and then the students should whisper the expression from that gesture to the next student, repeating until the last student from each column faces you with their hands raised (indicating that they are ready with the answer). When the last student from every group is ready, you can do a countdown from 5. On "1" the last students from each column/team should indicate what the gesture was and say it. If they are right, their team gets a point. If they are wrong, no points.

Repeat the activity until every row of students has had a chance to face you.

Not sure how well I explained that, but the kids really enjoyed the activity, and it really helped reinforce the expressions, etc.
