Good day all,
I'm going to be in Seoul in a few days. I'm interested in renting a phone until I get my ARC and can sign a contract. Do any of you know the cost per day of renting a mobile from the airport?
Thanks kindly.

I think it's 3,000 won per day. Then they charge you for calls and texts. Incoming calls should be free. |

Just buy a used phone and use prepaid service until you get your ARC. You can switch it to a "plan" phone anytime at your convenience after that.
The cost of renting a phone will outweight the cost of buying a decent used phone in about 10 days and I would be surprised if you get your ARC in less than 30 days. It is NOT uncommon for hakwons to leave it until the last minute (about 80 days). |

hi,
sorry for the bump, but just wanted to share some useful information that helped me when i rented a phone in korea.
if you go here: http://bbbkorea.org/kor/index/
you can get a coupon discounting you to 1,500KRW per day, rather than 3,000KRW. long term rentals for a month or more are 1,000KRW.
assuming you're not spectacular with korean, first translate the site to english. then click on BBBPhone. then to the right there's a blue box titled BBB Phone coupon. print that out and present it to the SK desk at Incheon airport.
i know people are saying a temporary prepaid handphone is cheaper, but for me personally, i need a handphone from the minute i arrive to contact some friends and get my accommodation sorted out. payphones (phone boxes) are impossible to find in korea. i dealt with this system last time i was in korea, a little expensive as far as talking time goes, but for a month or less, and texting as much as possible (texts are free), worked out fine for me, and it's a great peace of mind to be able to contact my friends immediately. |

I'm gonna bump this one more time because this was really helpful advice. My GF is here and she needs a phone for 4 weeks, so I got one at the airport and I had the coupon with me thanks to this post... 28x1.5 USD is painless and affordable. Will pass the link on to another friend who visits here next week. Thanks darkcity! |

If you rent a phone from the airport, does it have to be returned there...or are there drop off points in the Seoul or Pusan? |

I have a brochure but not with me now, but I remember there are offices/drop-off points in Seoul at least. |

the tour2korea website also offers the discount coupon. Register and print it before you arrive. |

This is unrelated to the OP but I found that in Korea, you can actually get good discounts as a visitor (or generally a foreigner since they don't ask for your residential status), such as Lotte World. From my life in Thailand I was used to being constantly overcharged, most of the time officially, for not being Thai (generally in the order of 2 to 10 times the prices locals pay). Something nice about Korea. |
