In the past few months I have found that I wake up at 4-4:30AM no matter when I go to bed. It is quite disturbing when this happens on my day off. Once I wake up, I can't fall back to sleep. I often sleep with earplugs, so it is not because of outside noise. Of course, because of this, I get sleepy in the afternoon. Has anyone had this problem? What did you do to overcome it?

It is probably closely linked to your mood. I had a similar problem when I worked in a Hagwon. Too much stress. I am willing to wager you work in a hagwon! |

Keep a bottle of soju to hand. When you wake up, take a generous slug of it. Honestly, this works. |

Whatever you do, don't fall asleep in the afternoon because you'll never sleep all the way through the night.
Also consider not eating or drinking anything after 7 PM. |

It's probably just habit now.
I find waking up at 7am on Saturday and Sunday a pain but you get used to it.
Some things maybe to improve the situation. No drinking alcohol during the week. Cut out excessive coffee especially after 4pm. Have a nice airy room, I find having a cooling breeze from a fan or from the windows works a treat in keeping me sleeping for longer.
Maybe now it's warmed up slightly may have something to do with it. I'm waking up a lot more now at 1am-3am.
That or it could be stress related. You carry it into your sleep. When I worked at a chef I used to wake up in a cold sweat after cooking 100 pepper steaks in my sleep. I hated those dreams. Especially if I knew we were busy the next day that was also a reason for me to have a restless sleep because I thought my alarms might not wake me up so I was waking up every so often. It still happens now but not so often.
That or have a wank it'll put you to sleep straight away! Apologies but it does work. |
