No.
Friends had them sent to Thailand. No problems with getting them in there.
Can't see there being a problem for Korea either. |

I noticed on the site that they have distributers in Thailand and Japan ($270!!! from Japan site).
However, I was checking out the forums and these machines are not without problems. If you get some high bitrate HD .mkv content (most of my material) there are a lot of performance problems. People are reporting that they can play the content on their PCs but not the popcorn (I guess because of lack of processing power). The developers and fanboys keep saying "this is not an HTPC!" "You shouldn't complain if you got the movie on the internet!" What! I'm a little disappointed.
EDIT: Been talking to the forum members a little and they say that it can play HD .mkv...just not crappily encoded ones. But which are crappy and which are not?

the thing with media players like the TVIX is that they don't have to have a hard drive to watch movies as you can stream them via the network. They just help you stream the videos to the TV and you have a remote to control playback.

That's exactly what I want!
However, the TVIX HD players cost around 400K because they have built-in computers/software/HDD and can be used pc-free. I can build a seperate 720p-capable HTPC for that amount. I'm looking for a device that only streams HD content and is dependent on a PC. Will the cheaper old TVIX players stream HD content (HD important) via my PC?
Cheers. |
I hear ya, but you know media extenders aren't cheap at all especially when they don't even offer the kind of capabilities that media players have. They seem redundant to me anyway.
You can definitely get cheaper TVIXs provided that you don't need to play 1080p or MKV stuff. If you need those then there's the popcorn which also gives you access to internet stuff like youtube and downloading torrents. They use less power than an HTPC (which is one of the reasons why I've never used a desktop in years).
The only thing I don't like about the popcorn is its cheap feel both inside and out :
The only lights at the front.
The inside which resembles a HD enclosure with a video card.
In fact reading from the source of those pictures I'm not all that impressed just yet. |
