I just had a talk with my co-teacher and was told 1: i have to go for a week to yongin for some workshop to learn things aparently my MA studies in tefl/sl wont provide and 2: that public school teachers can't re-sign (renew) with thier current schools for another year. I am quite happy with my school and my co-teachers are all happy with me, so i figured i would do another year at least with the same school.

has anyone heard about this? I emailed Dain Bae and am waiting for a reply, in the meanwhile could some of u ask your school? Also, how will this affect my visa; does it mean i need to head back to the states to get a new visa?

re-sign.

And I think your ct is blowing smoke up your ass. I don't have a great relationship with my school with me despising them and all. I am friendly but I don't like the majority of them.

yet, they practically begged me to renew. Something's wronng if your school doesnt want you to renew.

What a load of crap. Your CT knows jackall. Maybe he/she is trying to get rid of you.

There's a few teachers here who have been with their schools for 4-5+ years. That goes for the GEPIK ones as well. If you're on to a good thing then why change.

I would have thought that if you're half liked by your school they'll fall over themselves to keep you there.

i have a good relationship with my CT, she has been very helpful to me since i started working here last sept. All of my other CTs are new since February and they tell me I am a good teacher and are impressed by my commitment to my lessons and such. So I figure, no problem to renew. My CT, who is a great woman, told me she was told this by the administration office. She said she will call the education board tomorrow and confirm what she was told. I asked one of my friends working at public school to ask her school and would appreciate if anyone on here could do the same. I emailed Dain Baek, but got a reply emails saying she will be out till June 16.

I heard something similar from my co teacher. Supposedly its a new rule brought in this year. I re-signed for a new year but was told that there is some rule that because korean Public school teachers change thier jobs reguarly, so should foriegn teachers.

I was basically told that I have to find a new job for next year as there is a one year limit, I figured it was just me but now am not too sure as its possible some one has made a rule change, though it could just be a regional or city change.

Though will wait and see.

The best way to contact her is by calling 031-249-0045
If she doesn't answer then call Wenise at 031-249-0044

I just called her and she confirmed that I can't renew with the same school and need to go through the process of re-applying with GEPIK and search for another school.

If that's the case. Surely GEPIK will lose applicants if they are not allowed to renew with the same school. Still, EPIK teachers get moved around every so often because their contract is with the Office of Education. That was part of my renewing was that I DON'T get moved from my three schools, they were cool with that.

If this is true. Which I doubt. Think the OP is trolling myself.

It is a cunning ploy by GEPIK to keep our salaries low. If you work at the same school you are eligible for rises etc at the end of the year (if you perform your oral duties well).

If they now make people move schools then they won't have to pay this increase in salary. Highest level will be level 1 teachers.

Cunning GEPIK cunning.

Why the new policy?
This has to be one of the dumbest things I've heard in a long time...

"So, we've got some teachers who are actually happy and have built some report with their students and like their location and perhaps made some friends...OK let's force them to change schools at the end of their contract, it's not like there's a shortage of teachers anyways..."

About the meeting in Yongin--I was told that it's optional and that I don't have to attend. Hence, I'm not attending.

1) You can renew with your school. My school just asked me to last week.

2) Even if you change schools you can still move up the pay scale. It has nothing to do with service to your school. It is based one education and teaching experience.
