I have an exit order for June 14th and I have to fly to Japan and come back on a tourist visa. There isn't enough time for immigration to process an E2 visa (also still waiting for my criminal check which should be here before the end of the week).
Anyway, what's the deal with the tourist visa. I'm Canadian. Do I just have to touch down in Japan and come back to Korea. Is it as easy as that?
Also, what's the cheapest flight available (return, of course). I think I might be better off buying directly from the airline, but I'm not sure. The cheapest I've seen so far is 373,100 and that includes a fuel surcharge of 65,900 (307,200 plus the fuel surcharge). Would there be any other charges? That's to Fukuoka by Korean Air. Is there a cheaper airline? |

| take a ferry. They have deals on the KTX website for KTX/Ferry combo tickets. |

Out and back... same flight even is acceptable.
It is NOT where you go or how long you are gone for... just that you got an exit stamp and left.
IF you can get a return flight for 375k then take it. It is a little more expensive than the KTX/ferry but it is done in a few short hours (and they feed you both ways) and your worries are gone.

I started to check it out, but nothing jumps out at me on their web site about this combo deal. Guess I'll have to dig deeper.
Can I do that just as easy as flying? I'd like to come back same-day. Another thing is that to apply for my pension, I need an air ticket. Don't know if they'll accept a boat ticket. I don't know why it needs to be air. I guess I could apply for my pension once my visa is process (when I come back) and use the air ticket my employer is paying for to apply for my pension.
Anyway, all I have to do is touch down in Japan and come right back again? |

Yeah. That's a pretty good price. Plus I don't want to have to stay in Japan and I want to apply for my pension. I'll do some more digging though.
I don't have a credit card. Do airlines have offices where I can pay for it (besides the airport)? I know. Duh. But I'm just asking without searching. |

Try Jinny at Kangsantravel. You can use their online res for, or e-mail. They do the ferry special w/ hotel, but she usually needs a few days notice?

Yes, they do.... if you are in Seoul, they are close to the city hall station. Out exit 1, follow the road as it curves to the right. It will be on your right hand side.
You do know that you need a ONE WAY ticket out (not a return ticket) to file for your pension? |

I believe I was told by pension that it doesn't matter whether it's one-way or return. And it doesn't say "one-way air ticket" on their web site. It says "air ticket." Anyway, I'll call them again tomorrow. I guess if they say one thing, it could be a different thing when I go in to apply for it. I could also just show them my exit order. I don't have an ARC. That could work in my favor. I could just tell them that I'm coming back to tour Korea. 
I can be quite convincing. |

I'm not sure that's right. In most countries you need to have entered and exited another country before being readmitted. I think you would have to go through Japanese immigration and then make your way to departures. I might be wrong but that's how it works here in Thailand. |

If I fly to north America I don't get an entry/exit stamp.... but I have still left and returned....
really, they don't go looking for anything other than your exit from here. |
