I'm thinking that, based on my previous post of the hangeul info that there is probably a shuttle bus from Bojeong Yeok to the Learning Center. But it will take the language skills of someone who knows the language to confirm that. |

So the FT camp my teacher spoke about must be orientation...
I've been teaching for 2 weeks now and I don't want to leave the kids when they are just getting to know me. Is this thing mandatory? I would rather not go and I'm sure the school would rather pay me working than not. |

Generally speaking, if they say go, you will go. However, as noted by others, final exam week (at least for MS) is happening then anyway, so you wouldn't be doing any teaching in any event. You've only been there for 2 weeks? What you will discover if you haven't already is that the Koreans aren't real great about giving any advance notice about anything to wayguks. After all they all already know that that is exam week. Why don't you? They might mention it on the first exam day when you come down and ask where your students are. |

I'm lucky to have good teachers who keep me updated with everything.
I could just just go and get the typical orientation stuff, but unfortunately I'm a gyopo and I don't wanna go though all of that.
As dorky as it sounds, I'd rather plan future lesson during finals. :p |

This probably sounds hopelessly naive and optimistic, but I kind of look at such events at this as an opportunity to compare methods and such with other teachers and see if any of them have any good ideas and such that I've yet to discover. And vicsa (how do you spell that?), versa, of course. |

I looked up vice versa, which personally I can spell, and found out I can't say it.
"Often mispronounced, as vie-sa ver-sa, and consequently misspelt as visa versa. It should be pronounced vie-si ver-sa"
Hooray. We are learning already. It's gonna be great! (although, I'm still hoping my list of excuses are going to work at this point......) |

If the bunch of abortion bucket rejects at the Everland do is anything to go by then you will be discussing things such as
How to make a utility belt for teaching.
How to be aggressive while pouring a cup of coffee.
How to spray your food across the table while speaking.
How to dress like a vagrant and get a job.
How to heckle the head of GEPIK like a common pratt.
The list goes on........... |

Well, if the Clown Prince of GEPIK teachers, fromtheuk, is there that alone will be so amusing that it'll be worth it. I expect GEPIK insists that he attend these events so that they can use his behavior and attitudes as an object lesson for all GEPIK teachers. I'm pretty sure I could pick him out of a large crowd.   |

2008 GEPIK Orientation for all new teachers
GEPIK Elementary school teachers
23/June/2008 ~ 27/June/2008
GEPIK Middle and high school teachers
30/June/2008 ~ 4/July/2008
* This orientation is for new GEPIK teachers
and any other GEPIK teachers who did not attend last year's a week-long orientation (May/2007 or Sep/2007)

They also have Korean e-mail addresses.
Actually the problem lies in the fact that most Korean portals BOUNCE e-mail from western web-based portals like yahoo and hotmail and many of us here who do not have access to a pop3 server have to use one of those (or similar web-based e-mail services).
At least by having g-mail addresses they can receive mail from us without much fear of it getting bounced.
