My wife and I will have 3 months off from the end of August, but have no travel plans as of yet.

Where would you go? What would you do?

Any advice would be most appreciated. ^^

I did exactly what he said, with Burma included back before it got all super-fubar'd and it was an amazing experience. For 3 months, I'd bypass India and do that on my own. My personal route, taking the girlfriend through for 3 months would be this:

Start --> Thailand --> Cambodia --> Laos --> Viet Nam (2 months) -- back to Thailand (Kho Samui / Phan'gnang / Phuket --> Malaysia (3rd month).

Bangkok is obviously a great base of operations. From there, bus or plane it to Cambodia and Laos. I could spend 2 months there easily just touring the beaches, temples, rivers, and relaxing in hammocks and it wouldn't be a day wasted. Once you get to Laos it gets ghetto, and Viet Nam's just a hustlin' bustlin' fun time but trying to make a buck country. Central coast is so pretty but in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh (Saigon) you'll be on your guard constantly. Go back to Thailand to recharge for month 2-3, with some time spent in KL-Malaysia and then go to Langkawi to enjoy the tail end of your trip on some beautiful beaches relaxing and day tripping through jungles and water falls.

Just my 2 cents. It's what I plan on doing in another 9 months for some time off.

Cheers!
