From the British Embassy website

A series of large demonstrations against US beef imports have been taking place in the City Hall/Seoul Plaza/Cheonggyecheon Stream area of central Seoul, and more are planned. The demonstrations have been largely peaceful and there is a large police presence, but roads are likely to be blocked or heavily congested and visitors are advised to avoid the area during the protests. On Tuesday 10 June, the 21st anniversary of the first democratic elections, South Korean officials are expecting up to 1 million people to take to the streets in central Seoul. Visitors currently staying in hotels in the area (such as the Seoul Plaza, Westin Chosun, Lotte and Koreana) are advised to remain indoors and away from ground-floor public areas if they feel uncomfortable or if violence occurs. Observe any advice given by hotel staff and local police.

Wouldn't it be great if they stormed parliament and overthrew the government? One million nuts is a lot of people. Fewer than that managed to overthrow the government of Indonesia. If I was there I'd have the urge to go and take photos. Imagine if you'd been in Indonesia but were too *beep* to go and take photos. You can't miss these opportunities in life.

Koreans are beginning to look like idiots abroad.

Did you catch that article from the Canadian newspaper? Perhaps the most hilarious piece of journalism (yet truthful) that I've read in quite a while.

I have no doubt that with the reputation Korea is giving itself, the entire economy will be in the shitter within two years. NO ONE will want to do business here, and nations like the US are going to start reciprocating with their own tariffs.

I guess it was fun while it lasted. Sad

My co teachers are all attending the one in our town tonight at 7.00 pm. One of my co teachers would like the students to attend as well. They are thinking that it may bring down LMB.

I was asked if I was going, I said that my embassy has already warned me about the protests and said that I should avoid them. They said that I can be excused from attending then.

I also mentioned that at protests, certain koreans cant tell the difference between one white foriegner and another. I also mentioned that I dont feel the need to protest cheap meat and would be happy to get cheap steak or even corned silverside.

Hopefully it dies down soon. This town is pretty liberal and so I don't want to be seen as a target for some drunk angry anti beef protester or even a strident shrill middle school/ high school student.

I don't see why everyone is shitting on the Koreans for practicing democracy. They have every right to express their opinions and I wish my people - Canadians- could be moved to get off their asses and do the same thing.

Ks actually believe in the power of the people and have not become apathetic like most in the west are.

So good on them but I'm staying far away that's for sure.

1M is 2% of 50M.

They should get a petition to have a referendum, if their democracy allows it. Doing this is just mob mentality.

Yes, mandatory. Koreans' lives are at stake here. I say no measure is too extreme in dealing with foreigners who refuse to take an active part in this protest.

Except that these protest are fueled by misinformation, irrationality, and lunacy.

I don't mind them protesting a free-trade agreement. That's fine becasue while there are certainly winners in a deal like that, there are also plenty of people who will loose jobs.

But these portests are not based on rationality, science, and fairness. They are based on a xenophiboc public, insecure in the fact that they will never be able to protect themselves as a sovereign nation, and fueled my leftist sypathisers who want to remove the president from office.
