You do have the option in Firefox:
Here is how to do it.
From you firefox browser.
Click the 6th Menu item in from the left(TOOLS)
Click the bottom item on the drop down menu(OPTIONS)
Now you have a popup screen click the icon at the
top(GLOBE) third from the left.
Now uncheck the second item down(LOAD IMAGES AUTOMATICALLY)
And finally click the left button at the bottom(OK) |
This is the best way to do it, IMO.
Same can be done in the advanced tab of Tools on IE, but a bit more hassle to change back for safe sites. Probably an idea to use FF for surfing daves and IE or similar to browse normal sites.
EDIT: The text that replaces the little icons is HUGE.
You may actually be better to go into OPTIONS on the AdBlock Plus (Ctrl+Shift+E), and setting .png and .jpg as filters. This will block all images without selecting each one individually. Some images though, are .gif format. Add a filter for .gif and all the handy buttons like "reply" will disappear. Holding your cursor over the area will reveal the text at the bottom of your browser window though. Good enough for me, to have clean daves browsing. |

Try opera. It loads up in 1/2 the time as firefox, you can install it in english on a korean computer.
To block images right click -hit block images click on any image you want to block. hit done and you never have to see it again.
it also has a nice fit to width option, for when pages are too wide and you have to scroll across
plus it has a built in
email client (I prefer thunderbird)
torrent manager (I prefer utorrent)
rss reader (works well)
password manager etc
only problem is there is a small number of korean sites that don't work very well. |

For the love of god. You post so much, so your icon is everywhere.
I can't even go to Dave's at work anymore because everytime I load up a webpage, there is a dozen comments from a guy with a giant ass as his picture, then a bunch of posts of some half-naked tattooed chick, then a half-dozen comments with Korean models.
Seriously, there needs to be an option to disable people's images, or the moderators should start doing their jobs.
Korean workplace environments are not tolerant of this (I couldn't care less, but I don't want to lose my job). |
simple solution - do some work at work - and stop browsing on the internet -
(don't visit Daves cafe at work)... |

hmm.. strange, because at my work i see my avatar all the time
and not as if though it's anything pornographic.
it's just an ass that all Koreans wish they could have but never will (I do agree it's a little funny with that hole between the highs...) but maybe it's just that shot of it.
I would never remove it if someone was "offended" by it - there was one harphy shrew around here that claimed to be (like who really gives a *beep* if she's offended)
but your request/complaint actually may have some merit to it, though the tekkie wizards have provided an out.
maybe I'll change it. I'll sleep on it.
of course perhaps the other posters are right too. Maybe I should get a life and stop posting so much
that said.. with an 8 hour workday but 18 teaching hours each week, I have way too much time in the teacher's lounge.. and can't quite motivate myself to learn Korean/Hangul (yes, I should be flamed and called out on this) |

Thanks for taking it into consideration, but I have found a work-around for it. I just have all the Dave's pictures blocked now on my work laptop.
See, my problem is around the same as yours, except I have an eight hour work day and I only teach around fifteen hours a week. Not to mention, a handful of those classes are usually canceled. |

Yeah, some of the avatars are ridiculous. I don't understand why nobody ever does anything about this. I love hot women, and wouldn't object to more Lee Hyori . . . but let's keep those kind of pics in the appropriate threads. I don't think we need mini-skirt 20-somethings, giant asses, or jiggling boobs as avatars on every single thread. Yes, every single one of us could install some program to help us block avatars . . . but why not just have some kind of policy on avatars for this board? It'd take a lot less effort. This is nominally a teachers' board, after all. |

IncognitoHFX, where is that cute little puppy dog avatar of you looking all innocent that you had before you actually came to Korea? You got all toughened up after being here almost immediately. We all miss that innocent lil guy . |

I see what you're saying, but the way I see it if pictures of Lee Hyori's alluring cleavage can be pasted on soju ads in E-Mart, her heavenly midriff on the ads in the subway trains, her toned ass shaking on subway station TV ads, and her silky mini-skirted legs displayed on the sides of buses, then there's nothing wrong with having her pictures on an internet message board.
If anyone complains to me about it, I'll argue that provocative photos of women in public places is a part of the culture. When in Rome, right? |

I didn't care before, but after this post I think I'll start reporting the avatar till they make you change it... |

Just my opinion.the avatar seems well into the junior high school mentality of Oh look guys, it is a girls butt!!! Wow, look at that butt!! Nice Butt!!! Have you ever seen a butt that nice. I think most people here have seen a butt before and we really dont need to be reminded of what one looks like (yawn). And for all anyone knows, it isnt even a ladys butt, it might be some hot Brazilian new half flaunting the latest combination of cosmetic surgery and hormone shots.
Either way, the avatar along with the 666 in the name say a lot about the posters mental state. Glad he is not teaching my kids!
...but if that is what he needs to do to feel "cool" well go ahead and flip yer cookie. |

I think some flowers would be nice. Or a puppy. Perhaps a bunny rabbit.
Maybe the best would be a combination of flowers, puppy and bunny rabbit.
(Personally, I think Bogey666 posts up a picture of a girl's bum because...
deep down inside...
...he's gay) |

the 666 exists precisely to annoy people like you
or maybe I'm merely getting in touch with my "devilish side"?
maybe it isn't even a "lady's butt"? hmm. can you define for me what a "lady's" butt look like?
and maybe deep down inside (kiwi duncan) I really really really AM gay.
is there something wrong with that?
btw.. I've found out this avatar was actually used by a fairly prominent and famous ESL poster in the past (he PMed me to tell me this that may be where I got it a while back and saved the image on my computer.
so.. while I have no problem with changing the avatar, I most certainly won't be whined or threatened into doing it. That's a guaranteed way for you to lose.
try asking NICELY. Had Incognito not been offered the way to take care of his problem, I probably would have changed it today. |

666 is a personal reflection of one's beliefs, no more than a cross, fish or Star of David. It doesn't reflect on someone's teaching abilities or classroom content.
Personally, I know lots of people who use 666 in some form, many of them are kinder and have better morals than many Christians I know. |

actually they're not a reflection of mine. I'm almost as anti organized religion as you get. But I do love rattling the cage of any Jesus freak(s) out there.
this includes dumbass "devil" worshippers too.
though I to think there is something to be said for preferring to rule in hell than to be ruled in heaven?
