Anyone had the pleasure of reading their "coverage" of the mad cow fiasco? I have been sampling their articles for my adults for the past few weeks as an example of poor, biased journalism.
Brian has a nice blog post about it.
None of my teacher's have ever heard of it, but there is some really funny stuff in their "coverage." |

humour? or trolling?
the yellow kid cartoon that led to the term yellow journalism was so called because over a hundred years ago the newspapers used to turn yellow after a couple of days, making the cartoon character look yellow |

Sounds like you're the opposite of my situation. Many of my coteachers are active in the union and they go to all the anti-beef rallies. I give the topic a wide berth now.
I hadn't heard of that until you mentioned it. I expect we'll see that turn up on MBC as evidence that "see, even AMERICANS don't like American beef." |

It's hilarious.
A) It has no facts about this Concerned Americans group.
B) The logic is non-existent.

Last February, Westland-Hallmark Meat, a major distributor of school lunches recalled 64,350 tons of U.S. beef, among the largest recalls in history. As consumers who deeply care about the health of our families and communities, we can verify that both the U.S. government and U.S. beef industry have not demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting consumers. |
Ummmm.... Maybe I'm the idiot here, but doesn't recalling bad beef show a commitment to protecting consumers?
It's a joke, but you know the Hankyoreh will show it as legitimate. |

Here's a shocking example from their recent editorial page:
Time for compromise on US beef (June 5)
The single biggest reason the Korean people have a beef with the question of American beef is because the ideas the Korean and United States governments have for resolving it are all too different from what the Korean people want. If things continue like this, President Lee Myung-baks administration, for one, and the foundations of the U.S.-Korea relationship could collapse. The situation is one that requires both governments to make an extraordinary effort.
Korean public opinion already wants a complete renegotiation of the beef deal. More than 80 percent of the country wants an entirely new deal, and now even the ruling party wants one, too. The scale, intensity, and variety of participants in the street protests continue to grow. The mood is like a Second June Struggle, the June Struggle of 1987 having been a significant event in Koreas democracy movement. The Lee governments attempts to find easy escapes from the situation, instead of asking the United States to negotiate a new deal, only made matters worse, as did the idea of having private companies voluntarily refrain from dealing in American beef over 30 months old. The president cannot win back the peoples confidence with artful tricks meant to evade the issue.

Wow. Talk about hyperbole. 1987 all over again. Guess they really do hate learning English. |

Well, we already saw how Mad Bull Sh_tters transformed the Gwangju Massacre commemoration events into anti-American, anti-beef, anti-LMB festivities.

Can't get much more hyperbolic and out of touch than that. But they'll try, Xenu knows they'll try. |

Any bets on how likely it is that Bush has even heard about this? |

Even Bush is not that clueless. This issue affects nearly $1 billion in sales. It is also affecting the FTA that both governments have to ratify. It may also have an effect on getting the Korean government to pay more of the cost of transferring the troops to Pyeongtaek.
You know Bush is aware of all this. |

Bush has already talked to Lee on the phone promising no beef over 30 months old. Seems like the case should be closed. |
