|
|
i'm leaving to go back to america in 3 weeks, and have a pretty sweet cell... i've been told by a lot of people that korean cells won't work in other countries... i was also told by a few other people that because my particular phone appears to have an empty slot for a sim card it might actually work in america.... does anyone have any answer to this? i'd rather sell it than take a useless phone back with me... thanx for any info... |

It most likely WON'T work in America and the "SIM" slot is most likely for either a banking or a transit chip.

You can get the international thing at the airport as long as you have a calling plan. That's what the lady told me. |

This is probably right if the phone is 2G (CDMA).
If it's a 3G phone, it uses a real SIM (USIM, actually, the 3G follow-on to the SIM). |

You can get what they call "roaming service" for the US and many other countries.
It's rather expensive though.
Talk to your phone company. |

Mine will...
I just got a GSM/CDMA cell phone that they won't sell to foreigners (unless a Korean signs up for it) because you can use it abroad.. |

Huck that is correct.
I have seen Korean business people and flight attendants abroad using this phone service. A Korean must sign for it because in the past many foreigners racked up huge bills and didn't pay them. |

Its called GSM/CDMA Global roaming. Anyone can get it.
Most KTF/KT phone packages include this on their phones. |

some will, most won't (unless you get it extra?)
Samsung and LG were marketing phones which work in both America and Korea, for the business traveller. They were a bit more expensive I recall. |
