Does anyone have any experience using their teaching job here in Korea in order to gain an ESL endosement on a teaching license or college credit to apply in an ed program?
I was thinking about getting licensed in the States when I return home with a general science or social studies endorsement, I would like to add an ESL endorsement as that means more job opps/money.
In Oregon, I need to finish my masters in order to teach and go through another year of college to become licensed, hopefully I can shorten that timeline using the classroom time I have put in here.
Any experiences (Oregon especially)? |

I got into the University of Ottawa to do my BEd last year. I think they put quite a bit of consideration into my experiences here in Korea. There were quite a few people in the program with ESL teaching experience in Korea and Japan.
I think it's good experience and most universities will view it as such. |

Hey, I'm going to be getting my MA in Oregon next year, too. Here's what I know. To have an endorsement, it requires xx hours of credit. If you have an undergrad in history, take a test, and boom, you have an endorsement in history.
The same goes for ESL. If you don't have a BA in ESL, you have to take the classes to get the endorsement. Generally it's around 15-24 hours, depending on what school you apply to. Unfortunately, experience doesn't count towards the hours needed for it. However, the experience will help you get into the teaching program you're looking at.
One other note--not all schools offer an ESL endorsement. Be sure to check, if you want to get your MA and your endorsement at the same school. There is a program in Seoul that is done by the University of Oregon ( I think...or OU, I can't remember) and it's taught by the American professors. In 4 months, you can have your endorsement and take it home with you. Evening or weekend classes, I believe. PM me if you'd like more info.
