None of my ideas are sounding like they would work out that great. I was most interested in the Himalayas or New Zealand but it sounds like a bad time of year for those. (Except maybe Pakistan, but it looks like terrorists are controlling the NW, and that's too close to the NE for my comfort.)
Looking for something:
- Not hot. Preferably cool.
- Good nature stuff
- Preferably 1,500,000 or less airfare
- Good photo ops a plus
Other than that I'm fairly flexible, but that combination alone seems fairly hard to come by in the summer.

My top picks at the moment:
1. Greece to Iran overland (via Turkey) is top of my list to do this year.
2. Russia (of course) is also always good in summer (Trans Siberian, Moscow, provincial cities, Kuril islands, Kamchatka).
3. Syria (I've never been, but it seems now is the right time to go).
4. Sallalah in Oman (I'm curious about exploring a middle-eastern/african themed city). |

Thanks, but I don't think you read the post.
Japan, hot.
Hawaii, hot.
Canada, $800 over on airfare.
Australia, probably freezing cold (suppose I should check).
Niger, about $3000 over on airfare.
Russia, only suggestion not automatically disqualified. Might look into it. |

1. Think it's out of my range
2. Is it easy to get around? It's awfully big. Would there be things worth seeing that aren't multiple travel days away from each other?
3. Interesting suggestion, but might be out of my price range, and wouldn't it be hot too?
4. Same as 3 |

I think our definition of hot differs. Hawaii gets a high of about 85 degrees F, rarely 90, year round.
You said 1,500,000 won airfare, where did $800 come from?
Niger, well, that one is hotter than hell! |

Probably not. Hokkaido has a reputation for being the Pacific Northwest or perhaps Minnesota of Japan. It's a lot cooler there, not sweltering like everywhere from Honshu down would be. But to be honest, your close-range options from Korea aren't great if you're looking for cool climates. Most of Asia's going to be hot. The only other place I can think of that might be not so unpleasant is Kunming, which is supposedly mild for most of the year. |

I would second Iran. Flight should be around 1.2 million. While it is indeed hot there, there is almost 0 humidity in most parts and it doesn't feel that hot. As well, once you step outside of the sun, it isn't hot. Once you are there, it isn't that expensive, except for hotels. |

Yunan, Southern China... Kunming, Dali, Lijiang. Called "Land of Eternal", Spring" The elevation is about 7000 feet and the temperature rarely goes above 25C degrees. Several different ethnic groups live in the region and there are many interesting villages, heritage areas in the cities and enough nature, eg The head of the Yantze River. Cheap to get to as well. |

Yeah you should check, esp the north as BB wrote. It's never freezing cold up there unless you're used to living in an oven. Also has great photo ops & if nature's your thing then it's perfect.
Check out Kakadu in the NT or around the Kimberleys in the West, the Bungle Bungles over that way are absolutely spectacular too. If rainforest is more your thing head up Cape York & chill out around the Cairns/Port Douglas area. I'm getting homesick. |
