|
|
I got a recruiter who wants me to teach part time to a Corporate class, teachign business English. Anyways, they want to pay me 45,000w an hour. I know the corporation is paying them at least 90,000w an hour.
Is the corporation and recruiters under a contract? Would I be able to meet the corporate liaison and say, "Hey, how about we cut out the middle man and you hire me directly for less than you pay the recruiter?" |

It is possible. However most corporate classes last 3-6 months and then end. Once it finishes, you will never be able to use the same recruiter again for obvious reasons.
Thus, undercutting the recruiter will lead to short term gains but long term losses.
Best idea is to do a good job and impress the recruiter. They will keep you going with new classes for as long as you want. Corporate classes are never long term.
I've had friends do it before. The classes then ended, and they had one less recruiter to contact for replacement classes. They are now no better off then they were before. Others who didn't undercut, continue to be provided with replacement classes. In the end, those that don't undercut, make more money in the long run. |

I assume you are on an F2, F4, F5. If you are on an E2 forget it. Wait till you finish your contract and go to a country with more sensible laws (although extra work is still a contractual breach).
You cannot steal this client. One of the (few) things that recruiters do is they provide a Korean old style relationship with the clients decision makers. They take decision makers to dinners, etc. Some of the bigger recruiters will even provide free classes or camps for dependants of these decision makers. So even if the company is paying 90,000 or more likely 120,000 per hour it is not in the interests of the decision makers to save the company money.
If you are sick of working for less than 70,000 per hour go out and approach smaller companies where the decision maker will be the owner and actually care about company expenses.
Another problem occurring now due to the shortage of teachers is recruiting companies are realising they won't be able to fill as many contracts as they could before, so they are trying to make more off each contract hour. A friend (no not me) was being paid 50 per hour at a chaebol by the recruiter, they offered her 35 per hour to renew (and she is actually a great teacher).
E2's doing this work are not the problem but this old style Korean business relationship development has no place in the year 2008. |
