|

i was wondering if anyone has heard of any brazial ju jitsu, kick boxing, muay thai, or MMA classes in Korea?
I train in all of the above, and wouldn't be too happy about changing. Hapkido wouldn't be bad, but TKD? Might as well just scream at your opponnent .
I was wondering if other martial arts like the ones I mentioned were at all practiced here? |

I'm currently enrolled in a school that teaches capoeira, savate, and arnice.
The school is located very close to KyungHee university. PM me if you want specific directions. |

Is it true that the practitioners are either old or very young? The middle and high school kids are too busy with academy right? |

Three are tonne. JuiJitsu and MMA type gyms are a bit harder to find. But Muay Thai and Kickboxing is everywhere..

when i lived in Seoul i trained in Muay Thai at K Gym in Northern Seoul. The Kru is an ex Korean champ, so he's pretty good and theres a few other westerners there. Fees were 90 a month when i was there and you can go whenever you like between 12 and 10 6 days a week, though actual training sessions are every 1.5 hours ( i think ).
If you get off the subway at Sungshin womans university (blue line) and head up the hill on the right hand side, its past the bakery and the stationary shop and its on the second floor ( big green sign ). I do know there are many more in Seoul but i couldnt tell you where they were im afraid. |

In the past, I have used www.mooto.com to find gyms. They have a pretty good dojang list. Otherwise, you naver.com where you can search by location.
I don't think you will find it that difficult to find a Muay Thai gym. There are plenty around. There is an American guy teaching BJJ (I think some of the guys on this site train with him). There is also a Korean BJJ association. Another martial art that is MMA style is Gongkwon Yusul. The master is very open to foreign students and has even made an effort to learn English. I did Gongkwon Yusul for a while until I re-injured a shoulder. The training was good and the students were very welcoming.
If none of these are any good, then look for a Yudo club. Koreans are very strong at this. In particular, look for a club whose instructor has graduated from Yong In University.
Cisco Kid - which of those styles do you train in? I have been to that club a couple of times. |

Ya sure. Korea university ... exit number 4. Walk to the intersection and turn right. Walk about 7 minutes and you'll see a bus stop - you can wait for bus number 273 - get on that bus and go two stops. When you get off, you'll cross the street and look for a sign that says "Gumdo" - there are posters of Capoeria on the glass doors. The school is in the basement. There's a bus stop just outside the school too. If you can't find it, let me know when you'll be there, post your phone number and I'll call you.
classes start at 730PM - only five days a week, but they give you the lock combination if you want to train by yourself on weekends. |
