We noticed some problems with both of our ISP's yesterday (we have 2 here). Maybe it was a national problem?

okay well I have had Hanaro for 3 weeks and it has been slow the entire time. I keep hearing people that can download at 2-10 megabytes per second while I can only download at 40 kp/s second. What do you suggest? The thing is when the guy came he was trying to type in ipconfig on my mac and it didn't work. (I regret buying a mac big time) Anyways he didn't seem to know what a Mac was so I don't think the router or whatever was connected correctly. I had wireless stolen internet before,, but the reason why I signed up for Hanaro was to get these super speeds people kept bragging about. I am thinking of switching to KT or canceling my internet if nothing improves.

What Hanaro package do you have? It might help to know what speeds you are paying for and not getting.

I use a mac and typically get 3MB/s download and 1~1.5MB/s upload. I use their top of the line cable modem package.

Did the guy have trouble setting it up because when the guy came over he didn't seem to know much about macs. I think if I convert to Windows and have him come over again he might be able to fix it.

I use a router...I can't see how your computer would be any trouble. I tested to see if I could get faster speeds without my router and it is the same if I plug it in or don't plug it in.

What OS are you using? What type of Mac?

If you're using a Mac notebook, you could try taking it to work, a friend's house or somewhere with free wireless (where you know what the speed should be like) and compare with your home connection - this may rule out some issue within your own computer.

Do you know what Hanaro's contention ratio is like? Someone in your building could be hogging all the bandwidth.

I have taken it to work and I get similar speeds. I believe I am using Mac Leopard (OS X) - Macbook (laptop). Is there a way to defrag a mac? Would that help? I am thinking of using Bootcamp and switching to Windows and seeing if that fixes anything. If not I will call Hanaro and see if they can figure it out.

It's not just me then... my usually fast internet is on the fritz, a lot of ports won't open and a lot of non-domestic websites won't load. I can't connect to messenger, and things seem slower in general.

I agree, must be nationwide.

Yes this is a national problem.

I had been wondering why when I grabbed something off newsgroups last night I got like 200KB/s. Usually I get 3MB/s off them.

So I think we have narrowed that the problem is with the Internet.

I guess I just have to wait it out...sucks though cause it is taking me forever to download new flicks Razz

It's been 24hrs+

I think Hanaro must be having some severe problems. My speeds are about 10-20% of what they should be. Overseas webpages lag a lot, are slow to load, or don't load at all.

I wonder how long it will be until the problem is resolved Sad

Speeds were 10x faster than that or more a few days ago Sad
